Key Storylines
Louisville’s path to the Boca Raton Bowl has featured more high-profile victories and scheduling challenges than Toledo’s by virtue of playing in the ACC. The Cardinals finished with an 8-4 record and closed the regular season with a 41-0 win over in-state rival Kentucky out of the SEC. The Cardinals get a MAC opponent to finish out the year and it will be interesting to see how the Cards approach this game from a motivation standpoint.
Toledo’s season was defined by elite defensive play, ranking among the nation’s best in both yards and points allowed. The Rockets will have their hands full in this game against a Louisville team with a potent passing attack, which is the best aerial attack that Toledo has seen all season.
Off the field, Toledo has undergone a coaching transition with interim leadership taking over after longtime head coach Jason Candle accepted the head coaching job at UConn. That change introduces an element of uncertainty into game preparation and in-game adjustments for Toledo, while Louisville’s Jeff Brohm brings continuity and ACC experience to this bowl stage.
Quarterback Play
Quarterback performance will play a key role in how this game unfolds. Louisville’s Miller Moss has thrown for over 2,500 yards with 14 touchdowns and 7 interceptions this season. Moss is expected to play in this game and will look to end the year on a high note.
Toledo’s Tucker Gleason has also surpassed 2,500 passing yards this season. But Gleason is not expected to play in this game due to injury. Instead, we could see Kalieb Osborne at quarterback for Toledo, who has had limited action at quarterback this year for his team.
