The Georgia Bulldogs will face the Florida Gators in this year's edition of the “World’s Largest Outdoor Cocktail Party” on Saturday. Georgia arrives with momentum, fresh off a signature win over an elite Ole Miss team, while Florida is bracing for change under an interim head coach. Georgia is favored going into this game and will try to avoid a high-profile upset. Before kickoff from Jacksonville, continue reading to get my Georgia vs Florida prediction.
This game is loaded with storylines. Georgia is riding high after a win over a ranked Ole Miss team and the Bulldogs’ offense appears to have kicked into high gear. Quarterback Gunner Stockton has been efficient, completing over 70% of his passes, throwing 10 touchdowns to just one interception. He has also chipped in 279 rushing yards with seven scores on the ground. Florida is in transition, having fired head coach Billy Napier and installed wide receivers coach Billy Gonzalez as interim. The Gators will try to respond to all of that adversity in this contest.
Georgia has won the last four matchups in this series and seven of their last eight meetings. The Bulldogs bring a clear edge in rushing offense, averaging over 190 yards per game. Georgia also has a better run defense, holding opponents to under 100 yards per game on the ground. Florida will have to overcome those advantages for the Bulldogs, along with all of the adversity they are facing from elsewhere.
Gunner Stockton of Georgia commands attention from opposing defenses. He has 1,553 passing yards this season, with 10 touchdowns and just a single interception. He is taking a huge leap this season and will try to get a signature win in a rivalry game for the Bulldogs.
Florida quarterback D.J. Lagway is having a roller coaster of a season for the Gators. He enters this game with nine passing touchdowns and nine interceptions this year. That kind of turnover ratio is dangerous against a Georgia defense that will look to force mistakes to create momentum in this neutral-site matchup.
Score Projection: Georgia 28 – Florida 20
Win Probability: Georgia 74%, Florida 26%
Georgia appears to have nearly all the advantages in this rivalry game. They have superior quarterback play, a more consistent rushing attack, and an elite defense. Florida is dealing with a coaching change, inconsistent quarterbacking, and an offense that ranks near the bottom of the country in scoring. I am going to lay the points with a Georgia team that isn't likely to slip up in this rivalry game.
