Florida vs Missouri Prediction & Preview: Can Gators Build On Huge Win Last Week?

No. 8 Florida heads to Columbia on Saturday with a 4-0 record and a 2-0 SEC mark after a 52-28 win over then-No. 4 Ole Miss. Missouri is 3-1 and 0-1 in conference play after a 31-24 road loss to Mississippi State. Florida has scored 44 or more points in every game, while Missouri is returning home for its Homecoming game after letting a 24-17 fourth-quarter lead get away in Starkville. This is still a dangerous road spot for the Gators, and the current market is asking them to win by nearly a touchdown.
Why Our Model Sees Value:

“Florida deserves to be favored, but 5.5 points looks too wide for a road game against a Missouri offense with an efficient veteran quarterback, a proven lead receiver, and enough of a pass rush to disrupt Florida without committing extra defenders to getting after the quarterback.”
Pricing vs. Projection
Polymarket currently prices Florida -5.5 at 50¢ and Missouri +5.5 at 51¢. The total of 57.5 is close to balanced, with the over at 50¢ and the under at 51¢. That spread price implies a 51% chance that Missouri either wins outright or stays within 5 points. My number is 55%, creating a 4% edge at the current price.
A One Score Game Expected
My projected margin is Florida by about 3 points. That is close to the current SP+ projection of Florida by 2.4, and it fits the matchup better than a spread above 5 points. Florida has earned respect with its fast start, but the Gators have already shown some road vulnerability after allowing 39 points at Auburn. Missouri also has the passing offense to keep answering if Florida scores early.

Florida has moved to No. 8 nationally and sits at 2-0 in SEC play, making this another important game for their SEC futures hopes before later games against Texas and Georgia. Missouri is 0-1 in the SEC, so a second conference loss would leave very little room for error in a schedule that still includes Texas A&M, Ole Miss, Texas and Georgia. The setting matters too. Missouri is 2-0 at home this season, and this is its Homecoming game at Memorial Stadium.
Jadan Baugh is the centerpiece of Florida’s offense. He enters with 600 rushing yards and 11 touchdowns, and he ran for 142 yards as Florida piled up 302 rushing yards against Ole Miss. The Gators finished that game with 498 total yards and controlled possession for 36:59. Missouri cannot allow Florida to dictate the game with long drives.
The Tigers do have disruptive talent up front. Daeden Hopkins has 6 sacks through 4 games, but Missouri enters the week with edge rushers Darris Smith and Langden Kitchen listed as questionable. That injury situation is significant against a Florida line that has helped create one of the most productive rushing attacks in the country.
Aaron Philo has 917 passing yards for Florida, giving the Gators balance when defenses load the box against Baugh. Missouri quarterback Austin Simmons has been just as important to his offense, throwing for 947 yards, 11 touchdowns and no interceptions through 4 games. He threw for 295 yards and 3 scores against Mississippi State.
Cayden Lee is the matchup piece Florida must limit. Lee has 27 catches for 412 yards and 4 touchdowns, including 11 receptions for 156 yards and 2 scores last week. Missouri produced 414 total yards in that loss, so the offense moved the ball even though the Tigers failed on both fourth-down attempts.
Florida has the higher offensive ceiling, but Missouri has home field, a quarterback who has protected the ball, and a passing game capable of attacking a Florida defense that has allowed 248 passing yards per game. The Gators can win this game without covering 5.5. My projection is Florida 31, Missouri 28, making Missouri +5.5 my 51¢ the preferred prediction.
