Arkansas vs Utah Prediction & Preview: Which Power Conference Team Goes to 2-0?

Updated September 10, 2026
Arkansas enters Saturday night with a chance to make an immediate statement under first-year coach Ryan Silverfield, but the assignment is considerably tougher than its opening 31-14 win over North Alabama. No. 20 Utah is also 1-0 after overwhelming Idaho 66-14 at Rice-Eccles Stadium. The Utes produced 633 yards in that opener, and their combination of home-field advantage, quarterback play, and rushing depth has made them a heavy favorite at home in this power conference contest.
Why Our Model Sees Value:
“The market is giving substantial respect to Utah overall while still pricing 35 or more Utah points below 50%. Utah has enough rushing depth and quarterback explosiveness to outperform that team-total expectation against an Arkansas defense that has yet to face an FBS offense in 2026.”
Utah An 81% Favorite At Home
Polymarket currently prices Utah around 81¢ to win outright, compared with approximately 19¢ for Arkansas. The main spread sits around Utah -13.5, while the full-game total is near 55.5. Those figures produce an implied game script with Utah scoring in the mid-30s while Arkansas lands near the low 20s. Polymarket's Utah team-total ladder is less aggressive, with over 34.5 priced around 47¢.
A Favorable Team Total Price
My projection gives Utah a 55% chance of reaching at least 35 points, leaving an 8% gap over the current implied probability. The outright Utah price already asks prediction-market participants to pay heavily for the stronger team. The scoring market provides another way to back the same matchup advantage without needing Utah to cover a large margin.

This is a nonconference game, so neither side can improve its SEC or Big 12 record directly. Its importance comes from national perception of these programs. Utah climbed to No. 20 after its opener and is coming off an 11-win 2025 campaign, making games like this important for building a playoff résumé before Big 12 play becomes the focus. Arkansas has an opportunity to change the conversation after finishing 2-10 last season.
Utah gave several early signs that its attack can remain productive under Morgan Scalley. Devon Dampier threw three touchdown passes against Idaho, while Wayshawn Parker scored three touchdowns and the Utes finished with 633 total yards. Braden Pegan led Utah with 81 receiving yards, while LaMarcus Bell added 87 rushing yards. That balance is important because Arkansas cannot devote its entire defensive plan to containing Dampier if there are other weapons the Utes can rely on.
Utah's ability to run efficiently could be especially important near the goal line. If the Utes consistently create manageable third downs, their offense should generate enough possessions inside Arkansas territory to make 35 points attainable, hence our Arkansas vs Utah prediction being the over on Utah's team total.
KJ Jackson gave Arkansas a productive first start of the season, completing 24 of 35 passes for 267 yards with three touchdowns and one interception against North Alabama. His 68.6% completion rate was encouraging, but Utah is a major increase in defensive speed and physicality compared to North Alabama's defense.
Arkansas needs Jackson to avoid negative plays and sustain drives. Short possessions would put additional strain on its defense while giving Utah repeated opportunities to attack favorable field position.
Utah's offensive efficiency is the central factor of this game. The Utes do not need another 66-point performance for this prediction to cash. They need five touchdowns to reach the 35-point mark. With Utah playing at home, coming off a 633-yard opener and facing an Arkansas team still early in a coaching transition, the path to 35 or more points is stronger than the current 47% prediction-market price suggests, according to our projections.
