The Toledo Rockets head to Kent on Friday night to face the Kent State Golden Flashes in a Mid-American Conference battle between two teams off to great starts in league play. Kent State enters as the favorite in this one with a strong 13-4 overall record compared to Toledo’s 10-7 mark. But both teams are 4-1 in the MAC and will try to get a statement win that could help their MAC tournament seeding later on. Before tip-off, keep reading to find my Toledo vs Kent State prediction.
Pick: | Kent State -5.5 ATS PRO |
Confidence: | 4/5 |
Kent State has been one of the stronger offensive teams in the nation this season, averaging over 90 points per game and ranking well in scoring among Division I programs. Their balanced attack features a dynamic inside-outside combination with key contributors impacting both scoring and playmaking. Delrecco Gillespie has led them by averaging a double-double with 19.3 points and 12.6 rebounds per game. He will be the top player to watch here, as Kent State looks to improve to 5-1 in conference play.
Toledo has also shown offense in abundance, scoring in the low 80s per game, but has been slightly more inconsistent on the defensive end. The Rockets bounced back from their first MAC loss of the season by getting a win over the Ohio Bobcats in their last game to improve to 4-1 in the league. Both of these teams are in a three-way tie for second place in the conference standings entering Friday night, making this a huge game for both sides.
Both teams are coming off solid recent results, though Kent State’s home-court advantage stands out. The Golden Flashes are typically tough in front of their home crowd, going 9-1 on their home floor, while Toledo’s road form has been more uneven.
Score Projection: Toledo 79 – Kent State 87 ATS PRO
Win Probability: Toledo 36%, Kent State 64% ATS PRO
My best bet for this big game in the MAC is for Kent State to win and cover the spread as a home favorite. The Golden Flashes have been incredible on their home floor throughout the year and that should continue against a Toledo team that has had its share of struggles locking in consistency on the defensive end of the floor. Expect Kent State to get a statement win on its home floor on Friday night.
