The stage is set for a high-profile Big 12 men’s basketball duel Saturday when the Texas Tech Red Raiders travel to take on the top-ranked Arizona Wildcats at the McKale Center in Tucson. Both teams are in the top five in the Big 12 standings this season and will look for a statement win here, while Arizona tries to rebound from its first loss of the season. Before tip-off from Tucson, you can find my Texas Tech vs Arizona prediction right here.
Pick: Arizona -9.5 ATS PRO
Confidence: ★★★★☆
Arizona’s unbeaten run came to an end earlier in the week, with the Wildcats falling 82-78 on the road at Kansas in a tightly contested affair. That loss ended a historic 23-game winning streak and ended a dominant start to the season. Arizona still leads the Big 12 in scoring at nearly 89 points per game and boasts a potent offensive attack, even if its three-point production ranks near the bottom of the league at just under 6 makes per game. The Wildcats are extremely tough at home, owning a perfect record in front of their fan base and looking to bounce back after their first loss.
The Wildcats will be without role player Dwayne Aristode, sidelined for this game due to injury. While his counting numbers are modest, his absence reduces Arizona’s rotation depth and could slightly impact guard minutes. Freshmen and junior leaders like Brayden Burries and Koa Peat will need to shoulder additional responsibility if the Wildcats are to reassert themselves offensively.
Texas Tech arrives with momentum after an emphatic 78-44 home victory over Colorado. The Red Raiders dominated across the stat sheet behind double-figure scoring from multiple players, led by J.T. Toppin’s double-double performance and six three-pointers from Donovan Atwell. On the season, Texas Tech ranks among the Big 12 leaders in three-point makes and efficiency, with a sharpshooting attack that can stretch super-power defenses.
These two Big 12 foes have a long history, with Arizona holding the edge in recent seasons. Last year, Arizona won two of three meetings, including a Big 12 Tournament semifinal that ended 86-80. This is the first meeting between these teams this season. Arizona is 14-9-1 against the spread going into this matchup. Texas Tech is 12-12 against the spread going into this contest.
Score Projection: Arizona 88 – Texas Tech 76 ATS PRO
Win Probability: Arizona 78%, Texas Tech 22% ATS PRO
Arizona’s offensive firepower and home court advantage make them the most logical choice to cover the spread in this matchup, especially after the emotional letdown of their first loss. While Texas Tech’s three-point shooting can keep the game close early, Arizona’s balance and talent give them the edge in achieving their goals of controlling tempo and finishing strong. I am going to lay the points with Arizona in this one.
