Tennessee’s hot start has been fueled by high-level ball movement and strong defense. The Vols are averaging 22.4 assists per game, third-best in the country. Their last game was a smooth 89–60 win over Tennessee State. They are led by freshman Nate Ament, who has 18.8 PPG, 8.4 RPG, and 2.2 steals per game over the season so far. Guard Ja’Kobi Gillespie has chipped in 16.6 PPG and 6.0 assists.
Rutgers is grappling with inconsistency coming into this game. The Scarlet Knights should be motivated after being embarrassed in their last game. While I don’t expect Pikiell to lead Rutgers to a win here, I do expect them to compete throughout and to avoid being blown out.
