St. John’s arrives in Washington with an 8–4 overall record and 1–0 in Big East play, seeking to build on a notable road win streak over Georgetown that dates back multiple seasons. This season, the Red Storm have excelled in transition scoring, ranking near the top of Division I in fastbreak points and thriving at the free-throw line. They are leading the Big East in free throw attempts and makes. Captain Zuby Ejiofor is a key contributor with averages around 14 points and 7 rebounds, while guards Ian Jackson and Dillon Mitchell are expected to be available after dealing with illness.
Georgetown is 9–4 with a 1–1 Big East record and they have a 7–1 record at home. The Hoyas have showcased offensive firepower recently, including a dominant 97–67 win in which Julius Halaifonua scored 20 points. Georgetown ranks well in assist-to-turnover ratio and takes care of the ball at a high level, but their offense has shown inconsistency at times and they must defend the transition game effectively to disrupt the Red Storm. Malik Mack and KJ Lewis lead the Hoyas' offense, and Georgetown’s ability to limit opponent field goal percentage is a defensive strength.
This is the first true road game of the season for St. John's, which is worth remembering going into this contest. The Red Storm could struggle in a true road environment here, even if their top contributors have some experience dealing with hostile environments in the Big East from previous years.
Score Projection: St. John’s 78 – Georgetown 70
Win Probability: St. John’s 76%, Georgetown 24%
St. John's should be able to win on the road to improve to 2-0 in Big East play after this contest. But I think we are in for a reasonably close game from Washington, D.C. I'm going to take the points with the Hoyas at home, as the Red Storm could struggle for a bit in their first true road game of the 2025-26 college basketball season.
