Key Storylines
- North Carolina enters ranked #14 in the most recent AP poll after a close 87‑84 win over Wake Forest. Key contributors include Henri Veesaar, who had 25 points in that victory. Caleb Wilson provides rebounding strength for the Tar Heels and his contributions will be huge here as well, as the Heels try to win the game on the glass here.
- Stanford holds an 8‑3 home record this season but faces a stiff challenge against UNC’s defensive rebounding and scoring. The Cardinal are averaging 42.7% shooting overall but have struggled from deep at times, a trend that could be exploited by UNC’s defense on the interior. Ebuka Okorie is the leading scorer for the Cardinal, averaging 22.1 points per game. If he can figure out a way to get going against North Carolina's defense, the Cardinal could put UNC on upset alert.
- Ball movement and coming up with assists will be a big key to this game. Neither team has a player on their roster averaging four assists per game so far this season. Creating better looks with their passing will be huge for both teams trying to get a win in this matchup.
- Fatigue and travel factors may play a role, as North Carolina is beginning a West Coast swing that includes this game and an upcoming contest at Cal. Stanford, meanwhile, seeks to build off recent performances, including a competitive outing against a good Virginia team despite a loss in that matchup.

Final Thoughts
Stanford should make this a competitive basketball game at home. But I'm going to take the North Carolina Tar Heels to win and cover the spread on the road here. The Heels should be able to take advantage of the fact that the Cardinal offense is so dependent on isolation plays involving Okorie, which should help them to get enough stops to win this game by at least two possessions.
