Michigan State visits Minnesota in a midweek Big Ten test that should draw plenty of attention across the country. Tom Izzo’s Spartans are 19-3 with a defense that travels well, while the Golden Gophers are 10-12 and far stronger at the Barn than on the road. Can Sparty hold serve as a favorite on the road, or will Minnesota put them on upset alert? Continue reading to find my Michigan State vs Minnesota prediction below.

Game Snapshot
- Matchup: Michigan State Spartans @ Minnesota Golden Gophers
- Date & Time: Wednesday, February 4, 7:00 p.m. ET
- Venue: Williams Arena, Minneapolis, Minnesota
- Broadcast: Big Ten Network
Key Storylines
- Current form: Michigan State enters 19-3 overall after an 83-71 home loss to Michigan on January 30 that snapped a strong run, while Minnesota fell 77-75 at Penn State on Sunday and sits 10-12.
- Backcourt edge: Jeremy Fears Jr. is pacing MSU with 14.9 points and 8.8 assists per game, lifting an offense that now leans on his tempo control and decision‑making.
- Minnesota scoring: Cade Tyson leads the Gophers at 19.9 points per game with efficient shooting, and Jaylen Crocker‑Johnson anchors the glass at 6.9 rebounds per game.
- Injuries and depth: Minnesota remains without guard Chance Stephens due to a health issue, and the guard rotation has been stretched thin at times. Tyson was on the floor and productive in Sunday’s loss, which helps the home side’s shot creation, but even that might not be enough to get Minnesota a win.
- Minnesota struggling: Going into this contest, the Golden Gophers have dropped seven games in a row. They have dropped into the bottom half of the Big Ten standings and will need to turn things around in a hurry if they want any shot at a decent seed in the Big Ten tournament.

Final Thoughts
Michigan State brings the steadier defense, cleaner late‑game execution with Jeremy Fears Jr. controlling tempo, and superior rebounding into this contest. Minnesota’s best path is Cade Tyson’s shot‑making and a strong whistle at home, yet the Gophers’ depth and turnover issues have been costly against top‑20 caliber defenses. Expect MSU to win this game, though I am going to take the points in what should be a relatively tight game late between these Big Ten rivals.
