Miami (OH) and Tennessee will meet in the first round of the 2026 NCAA Tournament on Friday. The RedHawks proved a lot of people wrong by winning in the First Four against SMU on Wednesday, and they will try to do the same against an established SEC opponent in this game. Before tip-off from Philly, continue reading to get my Miami (OH) vs Tennessee prediction in the round of 64.

Miami Ohio arrives after a dramatic stretch that has turned heads across the country. The RedHawks completed a 31-0 regular season before stumbling in their conference tournament, then bounced back with a strong win in the First Four to advance. Their high-scoring attack has consistently pushed opponents out of their comfort zone, averaging over 90 points per game across the season.
Tennessee, on the other hand, is built on physical defense and half-court execution. The Volunteers have faced stronger competition all season, which often gives teams from major conferences an edge in March. Still, recent inconsistency has raised questions, particularly when opponents dictate tempo and force higher-scoring games.
The biggest question entering this contest is pace. If Miami can speed the game up, it becomes far more dangerous. If Tennessee controls possessions and keeps scoring in the 60s, the advantage shifts heavily toward the Volunteers.

This game comes down to whether Miami Ohio can impose its preferred tempo. The RedHawks have proven they can score against anyone, and their offensive efficiency makes them a popular upset pick. However, Tennessee’s defensive discipline and experience against stronger competition provide a meaningful edge.
Expect Miami to have stretches of success, especially early, but Tennessee’s ability to slow the game and control the paint should make the difference over 40 minutes. I'll take the points with the RedHawks here as I expect a single-digit game, even if the Vols ultimately come away with the win.
