The New York Liberty begin a West Coast road trip on Sunday night when they visit the Los Angeles Sparks at Crypto.com Arena. New York enters the game at 11-5 and remains one of the top teams in the WNBA despite seeing its eight-game winning streak end earlier this week. Los Angeles has been competitive through the first month of the season, sitting near the playoff cut line with a 7-8 record. The Sparks have improved offensively behind Kelsey Plum, but defensive inconsistency has prevented them from building sustained success.
New York continues to operate as one of the most balanced teams in the WNBA. The Liberty are averaging 88.6 points per game while allowing just 82.6 points per game. Their defensive rating ranks among the league's best, entering Sunday third in the W in that category. Even after their recent loss to Washington, the Liberty remain one of the most efficient teams on both ends of the floor.
The Sparks have enough offensive firepower to stay competitive thanks to Kelsey Plum, Dearica Hamby, and Nneka Ogwumike. However, Los Angeles has allowed more than 90 points per game this season and has struggled to defend elite offenses. New York's combination of Breanna Stewart, Sabrina Ionescu, and Jonquel Jones gives the Liberty a significant edge in overall talent and depth. New York should control the game through superior rebounding, defense and half-court execution.
Parlay Odds: +430
The Liberty moneyline is the foundation of this parlay ticket. New York has been the more complete team this season and owns a sizable edge in defensive efficiency. Stewart remains the focal point of the offense, averaging 19.5 points per game and drawing favorable matchups against a Sparks defense that has struggled against elite forwards.
Kelsey Plum Over 5.5 Assists -118
Plum has carried a significant playmaking burden for Los Angeles and enters this game averaging 6.4 assists per game. Against a Liberty defense that often collapses aggressively on dribble penetration, Plum should have opportunities to create open looks for teammates. Even if scoring efficiency is difficult to maintain against New York's defense, the ball is likely to be in her hands throughout the game, making assists the stronger angle than a points prop.
Category | New York Liberty | Los Angeles Sparks |
|---|---|---|
Offensive Rating | 109.9 | 107.3 |
Defensive Rating | 102.6 | 111.3 |
Net Rating | +7.4 | -4.1 |
Pace | 95.89 | 97.27 |
Effective FG % | 53.9% | 51.8% |
Rebound % | 53.0% | 49.4% |
The strongest statistical edge in this game is New York's defense and rebounding. The Liberty have been significantly better at limiting efficient scoring while also controlling the glass. Los Angeles has generated points at a respectable rate, but the Sparks have struggled to prevent opponents from doing the same.
With Stewart leading the frontcourt, Ionescu directing the offense, and a defensive unit that consistently limits quality looks, New York enters this game as the deserved favorite. The Sparks are capable of hanging around if Plum gets hot from the perimeter, but over 40 minutes, the Liberty's balance should prove decisive. I recommend laying the points with the Liberty in this one.
