Key Storylines
- The Indiana Fever is trying to tighten up its defense after allowing 107 points in the opener against Dallas.
- Caitlin Clark returns healthy this season and remains the engine behind Indiana’s transition offense and perimeter attack. She had 7 assists in Indiana's opener.
- Los Angeles added veteran scoring and playmaking around Kelsey Plum, giving the Sparks more offensive balance than last season. But they will likely need more than the 78 points they scored in their opener to win this contest.
- The Sparks struggled defensively against Las Vegas in their opener and now face another elite offensive backcourt.
- With both teams giving up over 100 points in their season openers, the question will be who can step up defensively to get into the win column.
Key Players
Los Angeles Sparks
- Kelsey Plum remains the centerpiece of the Sparks offense after averaging 19.5 points and 5.7 assists last season. Her shot creation and pull-up shooting give Los Angeles a reliable late-clock option. She had 27 points against Las Vegas over the weekend.
- Nneka Ogwumike had 10 rebounds for the Sparks in her return to the team against the Aces. Ogwumike is a veteran who knows how to avoid foul trouble, which will be important against Boston on the interior for the LA Sparks.
- Ariel Atkins gives Los Angeles perimeter defense and veteran scoring depth, especially against explosive guards like Clark and Mitchell.
Indiana Fever
- Caitlin Clark remains one of the league’s most dangerous offensive weapons. Her passing vision stretches defenses and creates open looks all over the floor.
- Kelsey Mitchell enters this game after dropping 30 points against Dallas. She averaged 20.2 points last season and remains Indiana’s most explosive scorer in isolation situations.
- Aliyah Boston controls the paint for Indiana after averaging 8.2 rebounds and 3.7 assists last season. Her ability to score inside and facilitate offense gives Indiana balance.
Head-to-Head & Betting Trends
- Both teams are 0-1 straight up and against the spread so far this season.
- This is the first road game of the season for the Fever.
- The Sparks are 0-1 at home after getting blown out by the Aces in their opener.
Fever vs Sparks Model Projection
- Score Projection: Indiana Fever 94 - Los Angeles Sparks 91
- Win Probability: Indiana Fever 58%, Los Angeles Sparks 42%
Both of these teams are dangerous offensively and not great defensively. That should add up to a high-scoring game on both sides here. We may not see both sides break 100 points like we did in Indiana's first game of the season, but it wouldn't surprise me either. I'll take the over in this game, as I expect there to be offensive fireworks throughout.
