The women’s singles luge competition at the Milano Cortina Winter Olympic Games is shaping up to be an event that one country could end up dominating. With a long tradition of German excellence in this sport, the absence of some historic competitors from recent years has opened the door for a new generation of athletes to seize the spotlight. A German podium sweep is entirely possible here, and you will find my Olympic women's singles luge prediction below, before the sliding begins.
Below are the latest available outright odds for the women’s singles luge event at the 2026 Winter Olympics, from reputable US sportsbooks:
First and foremost, Germany’s continued dominance in the sport of luge is a historical trend that remains a factor entering these games, even as the roster has shifted from past Olympic champions to new leaders. Germany has won the majority of women’s Olympic luge gold medals since 1964, and its athletes regularly top the World Cup standings, which makes Fraebel, Berreiter, and Taubitz favorites in Italy.
Julia Taubitz’s story in particular is one to watch. She has achieved exceptional success at the World Championships and in World Cup competition, yet an Olympic medal in this event has eluded her. After narrowly missing the podium in previous Olympic appearances and returning from setbacks, including a crash at the 2022 Games, Taubitz posted the fastest training times at the venue in pre‑race sessions. If she can replicate that form in competition, she could claim the gold that has thus far escaped her.
Merle Fraebel, Taubitz’s German teammate, has also been consistent throughout the World Cup season. Her strong form throughout recent international competition has placed her in the center of betting markets as one of the three favorites at many sportsbooks. Her recent results suggest she could convert this momentum into an Olympic medal.
The American contingent is another key storyline. Summer Britcher of the United States has turned in several high‑level performances during the World Cup season, including race wins and podium finishes, and she enters the Olympics as the top American in the field. While her odds make it hard to think she will overtake the Germans, she does have a real shot at the podium here.
Pick: Anna Berreiter to win gold ATS PRO
Confidence: 4 out of 5
While the podium could realistically feature several different athletes, the depth of Germany’s program should be too much for the rest of the world to overcome. I'll go with Berreiter out of the top German trio to grab the gold medal here, as she is one of the few names that can take down Taubitz as far as I'm concerned.
