Below are the most current odds available from US online sportsbooks for the women’s doubles luge competition:
The top story heading into the women’s doubles luge event is its historic debut at the Olympics. This is the first time that female pairs will compete for Olympic luge doubles medals, and the field carries a mix of seasoned European performers and exciting new challengers from outside the traditional luge power hubs.
The Austrian team of Selina Egle and Lara Kipp currently tops the World Cup standings in women’s doubles through the mid-season events, showcasing consistent speed and control across all types of turns on the ice. Their position as early favorites is supported by multiple World Cup wins and medal finishes this season.
Germany is one of the dominant forces in Olympic sliding sports and remains firmly in contention for this event. Dajana Eitberger and Magdalena Matschina have had elite runs, including breaking track records and winning major World Cup events. Their recent performance in Park City saw them set the fastest times over multiple heats. With Germany’s storied tradition in luge, they are expected to mount a serious challenge for the top spot.
The host nation of Italy is also in medal contention with Andrea Vötter and Marion Oberhofer. While not ranked as highly as the Austrian and German pairs, their experience at the Cortina sliding centre could provide a home-ice advantage that often pays dividends on technical tracks. For the United States, pioneers Chevonne Forgan and Sophia Kirkby have already made history as the first U.S. women’s doubles team nominated to the Olympic squad. They earned World Championship bronze medals in previous seasons and have posted competitive World Cup results.
Austria (Selina Egle & Lara Kipp) – The current World Cup leaders and the bookmakers’ favorites to secure Olympic gold. Their consistency and competitiveness against top German teams make them the pair with the best chance to win this new event.
Germany (Dajana Eitberger & Magdalena Matschina) – Hailing from a classic sliding nation with decades of Olympic luge success, they can never be counted out, especially given their recent momentum and ability to perform under pressure.
Italy (Andrea Vötter & Marion Oberhofer) – Strong contenders for a podium finish, especially if experience on the Cortina track translates into faster runs early on.
USA (Chevonne Forgan & Sophia Kirkby) – While not favored for gold, their World Championship medal history and steady improvement this season make them a fascinating dark horse in medal markets.
Pick: Austria’s Selina Egle & Lara Kipp for gold ATS PRO
Confidence: 4 out of 5
Betting on Olympic luge events is unique because winning margins are often razor-thin, and minor technical advantages can be the difference between a podium finish and being shut out. The women’s doubles discipline adds another layer of unpredictability due to its new Olympic status, which means historic patterns need not apply here. That said, form from this season is a powerful indicator of what we might see in these games. Austria’s Egle and Kipp have not only led the World Cup standings but have consistently run faster combined times than their chief rivals, making them my pick to come away with the gold.
