The women’s 500m speed skating event at the 2026 Winter Olympics in Milano‑Cortina is going to be an exciting sprint for gold. With the sport’s biggest stars seeking Winter Games glory, this event promises thrilling head‑to‑head competition and razor‑thin margins that define Olympic sprint racing. The field is stacked with elite Dutch talent and by strong Japanese and American contenders, all with compelling arguments for medal contention. Here, I break down this race and make my women's 500m predictions.
Below are the latest available odds for the women’s 500m speed skating gold medal at the 2026 Winter Olympics:
One of the major storylines of the women’s 500m is the continued dominance of the Dutch sprint contingent. Femke Kok enters these Olympics riding an exceptional World Cup season where she remained unbeaten in the 500m races and claimed multiple World Cup gold medals on the distance, showcasing elite start speed and powerful straight‑line pace. That consistent form explains why she is an overwhelming favorite in the betting markets and widely regarded as the woman to beat.
Jutta Leerdam, another Dutch powerhouse, is no stranger to delivering big performances on the Olympic stage. While she recently claimed the Olympic title in the women’s 1000m, Leerdam has been a top‑tier sprinter across both World Championship and World Cup races. Her ability to combine precision technique with sheer speed makes her a natural foil to Kok’s blistering early splits.
Kaja Ziomek‑Nogal’s journey through the European sprint ranks and strong 2026 season peaking with the European Championships helps explain her presence as a dark‑horse contender in the odds. She has shown she can handle high‑pressure sprint races, though her lack of consistent podium finishes compared to the Dutch stars keeps her price longer.
Erin Jackson, the defending Olympic champion from the 2022 Games, remains an intriguing outsider. Though not favored at this edition of the games, her combination of explosive starts and championship experience cannot be ignored. If the circumstances on race day favor late‑race conversion over early pace, Jackson could emerge as a surprise contender.
Pick: Femke Kok (NED) to win gold ATS PRO
Confidence: 4/5
Femke Kok has been the standout sprinter on the World Cup circuit leading up to these Games, winning a series of elite 500m races and consistently posting the fastest times. Her blend of strong starts and top‑end speed gives her a statistical edge over the field. While Jutta Leerdam presents a strong challenge based on her recent Olympic gold performance in the 1000m and overall sprint pedigree, Kok’s current form and betting market support make her the most likely to secure Olympic gold in the 500m. I'll take the heavy favorite here, as she should grab gold for the Dutch in what is basically their national sport.
