The women’s short track speed skating 3000m relay at the 2026 Winter Olympics in Milano‑Cortina will be a fun test of team speed on the short track. Held at the Forum di Milano, the relay combines raw speed, sharp tactical decisions, and the inherent unpredictability that makes short track such compelling viewing. Just a few remaining nations have qualified for this event, and I break down the chances of those nations below, while making my short track speed skating women's 3000m relay prediction below.
This relay field features a mix of traditional powerhouses and emerging challengers based on performances from the 2025‑26 season and major international events. The Netherlands enters with a strong history in speed skating across the board, backed by consistent relay results and depth in individual distances.
Canada, which won the women’s 3000m relay at the 2025 World Short Track Championships, remains a serious medal contender and carries the confidence of recent championship form. South Korea has a storied Olympic history in short track and was among the top performers on the World Tour this season, while host nation Italy is buoyed by energy from its home crowd and recent relay podiums in World Cup races.
Teams like the United States and China sit in the middle tier of odds but have shown flashes of competitive potential. The US squad posted a strong second place in a 2025 World Cup relay final in Gdańsk, proving they can run with the best on their day. China’s relay squads also boast strong racers on their roster and have found success at regional events such as the 2025 Asian Winter Games, where they took gold in the women’s 3000m relay, showcasing tactical strength and finishing speed. Japan and Poland are longer shots but can’t be dismissed entirely if the favorites falter, given the unpredictable nature of short track racing and the potential for collisions and race dynamics to alter outcomes quickly.
Pick: Netherlands ATS PRO
Confidence: 4 out of 5
The Netherlands stands out as the most reliable pick in this relay to me for several reasons. The Dutch relay team has posted strong performances on the 2025‑26 World Tour, showcasing the speed and coordination required to excel in the relay format. While Canada holds recent world championship hardware and South Korea has an Olympic pedigree, the Dutch have the blend of individual talent and cohesive team dynamics necessary to navigate the often chaotic nature of short track relay competition. I'll take the favorites to get the win here for gold.
