The men’s doubles luge competition at the 2026 Winter Olympics in Milan-Cortina is shaping up to be an interesting competition without a clear favorite. With the doubles event scheduled for Wednesday at the Cortina Sliding Centre, all eyes are on the defending champions from Germany and the rising stars challenging their dominance. The atmosphere around the track is intense, with practice times suggesting that while experience remains a valuable asset in dealing with the icy curves, the margin between winning and losing is razor-thin. Here, I break down this competition and make my Olympic men's doubles luge prediction.
Below are the latest available outright winner odds for the men’s doubles luge competition at the 2026 Winter Games:
One of the biggest narratives heading into the men’s doubles luge is the attempt by Germany’s Tobias Wendl and Tobias Arlt to secure a fourth consecutive Olympic gold medal. This legendary pairing has defined the event for years, combining perfect starts and an almost instinctive feel for optimal track lines. However, recent practice times have suggested that their form might not be at its peak, opening the door for rivals to pounce. After placing mid-pack in early training runs and fighting back to fourth in later sessions, Wendl and Arlt remain calm, leaning on their vast experience and deep understanding of Olympic luge.
While the German veterans still stand atop the betting board, their compatriots Toni Eggert and Florian Müller are viewed as clear underdogs to the more decorated duo. Austria’s teams, led by Steu and Kindl, sit close behind the Germans in the odds, making them serious contenders if conditions favour precision and aggressive driving. Latvia’s Andris Bots and Martins Plume have shown speed on the World Cup circuit, while Italy’s Nagler and Malleier bring the home crowd advantage and are expected to elevate their performance in front of local fans.
Another compelling storyline has become the emergence of the Slovakian pair of Evan Bosman and Sean Mick. Their odds may be long, but their presence at the Olympics signals growth in the sport across nations not traditionally seen as luge powerhouses. Additionally, some newer pairings from countries such as Estonia, Hungary, and Japan bring unpredictability to the field. While they may lack consistent podium finishes, the right combination of conditions and nerves could see them close gaps on the favorites.
Pick: Tobias Wendl / Tobias Arlt (GER) ATS PRO
Confidence: 4 out of 5
To be the man, you've got to beat the man, or men in this case. Until someone takes down this dynamic duo from Germany, I don't think we are going to see it happen. This prediction rests largely on the duo’s unmatched Olympic pedigree and their ability to deliver under pressure. Even if recent training runs have been less dominant than expected, the transition from practice to competition often sees experienced athletes elevate their performances. Wendl and Arlt’s chemistry and race-craft make them hard to bet against, especially in a four-run total time format where consistency plays a massive role.
