Updated February 26, 2026
On Saturday, there will be Premier League action at the Vitality Stadium as Bournemouth hosts Sunderland. The Cherries currently sit 8th in the table with 38 points from 27 matches, narrowly ahead of Sunderland, who are 12th on 36 points. If there is a winner in this mid-table matchup, they will end round 28 of Premier League competition ahead of the loser. Before kick-off, continue reading for my Bournemouth vs Sunderland prediction.
Final Pick: Bournemouth to Win
Confidence: 3 out of 5
Bournemouth enter this fixture in strong overall form, remaining unbeaten in their last seven Premier League matches, including three wins and two draws in their last five. Their last loss in the Prem came in the first match of 2026 against league leaders Arsenal. This sequence has underlined a consistent balance between attacking aggression and defensive organisation. At home, they have been particularly sturdy, losing only once at the Vitality Stadium in Premier League play since early December.
The Cherries' capacity to score is well established, averaging approximately 1.6 goals per game in league action this season, and they have netted two or more goals in three of their last four home league matches. Attacking reinforcements like Brazilian forward Rayan have added a threat that complements the productivity of Marcus Tavernier, who has returned from injury to bolster the squad on the attack.
Sunderland have encountered a troubling spell of form. Their recent 3-1 home defeat to Fulham marked their third successive loss in Premier League competition, and they have struggled to find the back of the net consistently, with only one goal in those three matches. In fairness, two of those losses came to Arsenal and Liverpool, but Sunderland needs to find some inspiration in possession to turn things around.
On the road this season, the Black Cats have mustered just two wins and are winless in their last eight away matches in the Prem. Their lack of effectiveness up front and a more conservative goal output of roughly a goal goal per game highlights Sunderland’s ongoing challenge in converting opportunities into goals and goals into victories. Their defensive record, while respectable, has not been enough to earn them crucial points.
The last meeting between these clubs was a 3-2 win for Sunderland in November in a rare outburst for the Sunderland attack. The Black Cats would love to replicate that performance here, but that is easier said than done against an in-form Bournemouth side.
I will take Bournemouth as a slight favorite to get the job done at home on Saturday. The Cherries are operating at a high level defensively, which should spell trouble for a Sunderland side that has had a hard time finding the back of the net recently. Expect Bournemouth to be no worse than eighth in the table by the end of this weekend's matches, with the potential for them to leapfrog Brentford for seventh place.
Score Projection: Bournemouth 2 – Sunderland 1
Win Probability: Bournemouth 52%, Sunderland 21%, Draw 27%
