Bosnia vs Italy Prediction: Azzurri End their World Cup Drought?

Bosnia host Italy in a bear pit at Zenica on Tuesday in a winner-takes-all World Cup playoff final. Italy have failed to qualify in back-to-back cycles and cannot afford a third straight playoff exit. Bosnia survived a penalty shootout against Wales and carry fierce home advantage. The value here is not on the winner but on the goals market, with a tight, low-scoring final the most likely outcome.
Quick take: Italy's tactical discipline and squad depth should be enough to get over the line, but the real value is in backing a low-scoring game in a playoff final where neither side is likely to open up.

Italy come into this with considerable weight on their shoulders. Four-time world champions who have not appeared at a World Cup since 2014, they have now failed to qualify in back-to-back cycles and face the prospect of a third straight playoff exit if they stumble here.
Gattuso has settled on a 3-5-2 system and his side ultimately overwhelmed a plucky Northern Ireland 2-0 in Bergamo, with Sandro Tonali and Moise Kean getting the second-half goals.
Key absences include Giovanni Di Lorenzo and Federico Chiesa, though Alessandro Bastoni and Riccardo Calafiori are both fit to feature after suffering injury niggles.
Bosnia had to dig deep to get here. Edin Dzeko, now 40, headed in a late equalizer against Wales to force extra time, and Bosnia held their nerve to win 4-2 on penalties.
Coach Sergej Barbarez is expected to stick with his core group, with Dzeko and Ermedin Demirovic leading the attack and Sead Kolasinac providing experience at left back.
The atmosphere in Zenica will be fierce, and Bosnia are unbeaten in their last 5 matches. But their semifinal numbers against Wales were underwhelming, and their path here was built more on grit and set pieces than open-play creativity.
Italy are deserving favorites based on squad depth and head-to-head history, but the under 2.5 goals market is where the edge sits.
Both teams have been involved in tight, controlled matches in this playoff window, three of the last 4 meetings between these sides stayed under the line, and Italy's most likely route to victory runs through a structured, low-risk performance rather than an open shootout. The market is pricing this at 57% implied, but the underlying data puts it closer to 65%.
Italy's experience, defensive solidity, and superior squad quality make them the team most likely to qualify, but a comfortable victory is far from guaranteed in a hostile atmosphere in Zenica.
The 1-0 projection reflects a game where Italy manage the occasion, limit Bosnia to half chances, and nick a goal through Kean or Retegui without ever fully opening up. Under 2.5 goals is the bet that holds up across multiple game scripts and represents the strongest angle on the board.
