Vegas Golden Knights vs Detroit Red Wings Prediction - 3/4/2026

The Vegas Golden Knights hit the road to take on the Detroit Red Wings on Wednesday in a contest that carries implications for playoff positioning for both teams. The Red Wings, boasting a better overall record, are installed as favorites, while Vegas seeks to rebound from recent setbacks and injury concerns. Both teams come into this Golden Knights vs Red Wings matchup in the top three in their respective divisions, making this one of the more important games on the ice on Wednesday.
Pick: Detroit Red Wings to win
Confidence: 4 out of 5
Vegas enters this game having struggled with consistency of late. They dropped a recent game to the Pittsburgh Penguins by a lopsided score and also lost to the Buffalo Sabres 3-2 on Tuesday night, allowing an early multi-goal lead to slip and ultimately falling despite late pushes. They will have to get back on track here, in the second game of a back-to-back.
Detroit, on the other hand, has been solid after the Olympic break, posting a 2-1-0 record and most recently beating the Nashville Predators 4-2 with contributions from Lucas Raymond and Alex DeBrincat. While Detroit’s results have had ups and downs, they arrive in better position and rested for this contest.
Vegas is expected to lean on Akira Schmid on the second game of a back-to-back, with Schmid posting better numbers this year than the rest of Vegas' goaltending options. Detroit’s John Gibson has been listed as day-to-day with an upper-body issue, though the Red Wings are expected to go with him in net in this inter-conference contest.
Vegas’ top offensive talents, including Jack Eichel and Ivan Barbashev, have been active, but injuries to key contributors such as Mark Stone could impact their effectiveness. Detroit’s Lucas Raymond and Alex DeBrincat have shown the ability to generate offense consistently and could exploit lapses in Vegas’ coverage.
Score Projection: Detroit Red Wings 4 – Vegas Golden Knights 3
Win Probability: Detroit Red Wings 57%, Vegas Golden Knights 43%
This should be a closely contested tilt, but Detroit’s combination of home ice advantage, better recent form, and greater roster stability gives them the edge. Vegas has talent but enters this game after a tough slate and on the second night of a back-to-back. I'll go with the Wings to get an important win at home to help their playoff chances at Vegas' expense.
