The Boston Bruins (3-0-0) will host the Tampa Bay Lightning (0-2-0) on Monday at TD Garden in Boston. The Bruins come in riding an early unbeaten streak and strong defensive form, while Tampa Bay is off to a sluggish start and has yet to find traction. Here, I break down this Eastern Conference matchup and bring you my Lightning vs Bruins prediction.
Boston has enjoyed a strong start under new head coach Marco Sturm, going 3-0 to open the season. Their win over Buffalo on Saturday extended the streak, with goaltender Jeremy Swayman recording 21 saves and the Bruins shutting down opposition scoring chances. The team has shown consistency on special teams and defense.
Tampa Bay is 0-2 to begin the season. They dropped a 5-4 game at Ottawa, then lost 5-3 to New Jersey. Their defense has been exposed, and they haven’t yet established momentum. The Lightning are 2/6 overall on the power play, showing flashes but lacking sustained execution.
Boston’s Jeremy Swayman appears to be in solid form, having allowed just one goal in the Buffalo game and making timely stops. If he keeps his composure, he will continue to be a stabilizing force for the Bruins.
Tampa Bay has veteran Andrei Vasilevskiy as its projected starter. While Vasilevskiy remains among the league's elite netminders when healthy, the Lightning’s defensive lapses so far have forced him to be under constant pressure.
For Tampa Bay, the projected top line of Jake Guentzel, Brayden Point, and Nikita Kucherov will carry the offensive expectations. Kucherov remains a reliable offensive force, and Point has early assists on his resume this season.
On Boston’s side, Elias Lindholm has been a standout early, leading them with two goals and two assists. David Pastrnak has contributed with one goal and three assists. Their penalty kill has also been perfect thus far, shutting down all opposition power plays.
Player | Prop |
|---|---|
Elias Lindholm (BOS) | Over 0.5 goals |
David Pastrnak (BOS) | Over 1.5 points |
Nikita Kucherov (TB) | Over 0.5 goals |
Score Projection: Boston 4 – Tampa Bay 2
Win Probability: Boston 58%, Tampa Bay 42%
Boston is playing some inspired hockey to start this season. They are getting the job done on special teams and their playmakers are doing a nice job of making them an offensive threat. I'll bank on that continuing in this game, as the Bruins will get the win and improve to 4-0-0 on the young NHL season.
