In a Western Conference clash on Wednesday, the Seattle Kraken and Dallas Stars will meet at American Airlines Center in Dallas. Both teams come into this meeting in third place in their respective divisions and will try to solidify their postseason positioning with a key victory in this matchup. Who will get a key win in this contest? Continue reading to get my Kraken vs Stars prediction.
Pick: Dallas Stars moneyline ATS PRO
Confidence: ★★★★☆
The Stars bring strong recent results into this game, having won six consecutive games and showing consistency on both ends of the ice. Dallas has been particularly effective at home with a 16-7-3 record, with strong offensive showings at home keeping them in third place in the Central Division. The Kraken have been more up and down, with a road record of 13-11-4 this year. However, Seattle won four of its final five games before the Olympic break and they will try to continue their winning ways here.
Dallas boasts a reliable netminding duo, anchored by Jake Oettinger and backed up by Casey DeSmith, combining for strong save percentages and goals against numbers relative to league averages. It is going to be DeSmith in goal for the Stars, with Oettinger out after winning gold with Team USA in the Olympics, despite not seeing any action.
The Kraken’s goaltending situation, led by Joey Daccord and Philipp Grubauer this season, is a combination of experience and occasional volatility, leaving room for high-scoring threats to get through. Grubauer represented Germany in the Olympics and is also expected to miss this game, opening the door for Daccord to get the start.
For the Stars, playmakers like Mikko Rantanen have been central to offensive production, logging high assist totals this season. But Rantanen is out on IR until March, which will force others to fill the void for the time being. Dallas also features Jason Robertson among its leaders in goals. On the Kraken, Jordan Eberle leads Seattle in goals and points, while Jared McCann has contributed strong numbers offensively. Both teams have depth when it comes to scoring, but Dallas’ ability to score on special teams gives them extra leverage in close games.
Player | Team | Goals | Assists | Points |
|---|---|---|---|---|
Jason Robertson | Stars | 32 | 11 | 43 |
Jordan Eberle | Kraken | 20 | 18 | 38 |
Jared McCann | Kraken | 14 | 23 | 37 |
Score Projection: Seattle 2 – Dallas 4 ATS PRO
Win Probability: Seattle 36%, Dallas 64% ATS PRO
It will be interesting to see how both of these teams come out of the Olympic break, given that they both need wins to stay in playoff positions. For now, I will go with the Stars to pick up the win at home, as the Kraken have a losing record on the road and haven't proven themselves as a team that can pass huge road tests on a consistent basis at all this year.
