With the San Jose Sharks traveling to take on the Washington Capitals on Thursday, both teams will be looking for an important win to help their playoff positioning. The Capitals enter as heavy favorites at home. But the Sharks are much improved from what we've seen from them over the last few seasons and they will try to pull off an upset in this matchup. Before the action begins in Washington, continue reading to find my Sharks vs Capitals prediction.
Pick: | Sharks ML ATS PRO |
Confidence: | 2/5 |
The Capitals come into this game having won an overtime game over the Montreal Canadiens in their last outing. Washington has allowed three or fewer goals in three straight games and they will try to continue performing well on defense here against an explosive San Jose squad.
The San Jose Sharks snapped a three‑game win streak with a 7‑2 loss to the Vegas Golden Knights in their last game. San Jose enters this contest with a 10-10-0 road record, as their play outside their building hasn’t always translated in positive results. Those looking for an edge in the betting markets may want to wager on whichever team they think will win to do so in regulation, as the Sharks have yet to lose an overtime game away from home.
Goaltending could be a defining factor. Washington’s tandem features Logan Thompson and Charlie Lindgren, with Thompson delivering high save percentages and Lindgren providing depth and solid recent form.
San Jose’s Yaroslav Askarov has shown potential, but his numbers this season reflect a below‑league‑average performance. Alex Nedeljkovic provides capable backup work for San Jose. Given Washington’s defensive structure and home-ice advantage, the goaltending matchup tilts in the Capitals’ favor going into this game.
Macklin Celebrini continues to anchor the Sharks’ offense with an impressive 70 points on the season, pacing his club by a wide margin. His ability to create scoring opportunities and generate offense makes him a must‑watch player in this matchup.
On the Capitals side, leading contributors like Alex Ovechkin and Dylan Strome provide scoring punch, while John Carlson and Martin Fehervary contribute on both ends. Washington’s balanced attack and depth scoring have helped them secure wins in important stretches, even without Tom Wilson on the ice due to injury.
Score Projection: Sharks 3 – Capitals 2 ATS PRO
Win Probability: Capitals 50%, Sharks 50% ATS PRO
I think this is a much closer game than the betting odds would lead you to believe. The Sharks have a huge rest advantage going into this game, having last played on January 11. They could very well win this contest outright, and I'll take the Sharks as moneyline underdogs.
