On Monday, the Pittsburgh Penguins will travel to Seattle to take on the Kraken in a game between two teams in playoff contention in their respective conferences. Both teams are in third place in their divisions and will try to stay ahead of the teams chasing them with a win in this spot. Before the puck drops at Climate Pledge Arena, continue reading to find my Penguins vs Kraken prediction for Monday's action on the ice.
Pick: | Kraken ML ATS PRO |
Confidence: | 2/5 |
Pittsburgh enters this game with four losses in their last five games. The Penguins are solid across 5v5 situations and have a balanced attack that has been effective against middle-tier opponents. But they have had trouble in tight games recently, with an overtime loss and a shootout loss within the last three games.
The Kraken return from a five-game road trip that saw them go 1-3-1, presenting a chance for Seattle to reset on home ice and get back into the win column. Seattle won the only prior meeting between these teams this season in overtime, giving them a psychological edge to build on here.
Pittsburgh is likely to deploy Stuart Skinner for this contest. Skinner has been a reliable netminder with a 2.72 goals-against average that should help the Penguins compete on the road here. For Seattle, Joey Daccord has posted respectable numbers this season, including a 2.84 GAA and a save percentage of .902. Goalie performance in the first two periods will be essential as both teams try to get to the final 20 minutes with the lead.
Sidney Crosby continues to anchor Pittsburgh’s offense, leading his team with elite point production and contributing in all facets of the game. His ability to generate chances on the man advantage is vital against Seattle’s below-average penalty kill. On the Kraken side, Matthew Beniers and Jordan Eberle are focal points of the offense and will need high-end performances to outperform Pittsburgh’s balanced scoring.
Score Projection: Pittsburgh 2 – Seattle 3 ATS PRO
Win Probability: Pittsburgh 47%, Seattle 53% ATS PRO
Both of these teams have been wildly inconsistent throughout this season. I think that the Kraken have a slight edge playing on their home ice in this spot. But I don't feel all that strongly about anything in the betting markets here, as this game could go in either direction based on which goaltender does the best job of protecting his crease.
