The Philadelphia Flyers and Ottawa Senators will meet in the NHL on Thursday night in Canada. Both teams are in the bottom halves of their respective divisions going into this Eastern Conference contest. Which of them will get a much-needed win on Thursday night? Here, I break this game down and give you my Flyers vs Senators prediction before the puck drops.
Philadelphia arrives at 3‑2‑1 for the season and have averaged 3.00 goals per game while allowing 2.67 goals per game. Their power play sits at 15.8% and their penalty kill is at 83.3%. They enter this game on a two-game winning streak, including a 5‑2 win over Seattle and a 2‑1 OT win against Minnesota. The Flyers are playing strong hockey of late and will try to continue their winning streak here.
Ottawa is 2‑4‑1 and defensively shaky. They’ve allowed an average of 4.71 goals per game and have surrendered 26.6 shots per game. They are averaging 3.00 goals per game, but their defensive breakdowns have been costly.
The Flyers’ team defense and goaltending edge gives them an advantage on the road for this contest. Dan Vladar is 3-1 in goal with a 1.75 GAA that ranks fourth in the NHL. Linus Ullmark has struggled so far this season for the Sens. He is 2-3-1 with a 3.80 GAA and he will try to be better in this contest for Ottawa.
Philadelphia RW Owen Tippett leads the team with five goals this season and C Sean Couturier has seven points (2 goals, 5 assists) so far.
Ottawa C Shane Pinto has seven goals and leads the team in points, and D Jake Sanderson is logging heavy minutes on defense. The Senators are missing captain Brady Tkachuk due to a thumb injury and they are trying to navigate that adversity early in the year.
Player | Stat | Prop Suggestion |
|---|---|---|
Owen Tippett (PHI) | Goals | Over 0.5 goals |
Sean Couturier (PHI) | Points | Over 0.5 points |
Shane Pinto (OTT) | Goals | Over 0.5 goals |
Score Projection: Philadelphia 4 – Ottawa 2
Win Probability: Philadelphia 60 %, Ottawa 40 %
My best bet for this game is for these two teams to combine to score over 5.5 goals. Both of these teams are capable offensively, while their defense has let them down at times. That is especially true of the Senators and that trend should continue in this game from Ottawa.
