Game Snapshot
- Matchup: Philadelphia Flyers vs Columbus Blue Jackets
- Date & Time: Wednesday, January 28, 7:30 PM ET
- Venue: Nationwide Arena, Columbus, Ohio
- Broadcast: TNT and HBO Max
Key Storylines
- Recent form
- Columbus has stacked home results through January, including a 1-0 shutout of Dallas behind Jet Greaves in goal and an 8-5 win over Tampa Bay. The Jackets have won four of their last five games overall.
- Philadelphia’s last two games have produced extremes of both the positive and negative variety. The Flyers grabbed a 7-3 win at Colorado, but followed that up with a 4-0 loss to the Islanders at home.
- Goaltending
- Blue Jackets: Jet Greaves is the expected starter after a 28-save clean sheet versus Dallas and a strong January run. Elvis Merzlikins has recently been available as backup following an illness.
- Flyers: With Dan Vladar on injured reserve, Samuel Ersson has carried the load. Form has fluctuated, for Ersson, but we could see Vladar back on the ice for Philadelphia here or in the near future.
- Key skaters
- Flyers: Trevor Zegras leads with 46 points, while Travis Konecny leads the team with 28 assists. Owen Tippett remains a high-volume shooter who can help bettors cash anytime goal scorer markets.
- Blue Jackets: Zach Werenski paces the team with 55 points, igniting the rush and the power play. Young pieces like Denton Mateychuk have chipped in, and their wings have contributed to recent multi-goal home efforts.
- Betting Trends & H2H
- This is the first of three regular-season games between the Flyers and Blue Jackets this season.
- The Flyers are 31-20 in the puckline market going into this matchup.
- Columbus goes into this matchup with a 26-24 record on the puckline entering Wednesday night.
Flyers vs Blue Jackets Model Projection
Score Projection: Philadelphia 3 – Columbus 4
Win Probability: Philadelphia 44%, Columbus 56%
Final Thoughts
I am going to take the Columbus Blue Jackets to get a win at home over the Philadelphia Flyers. The Jackets have shown recently that they can win both high-scoring games and defensive battles of late. They could benefit from facing a rusty goaltender in Vladar if he makes his return here, or the Blue Jackets could benefit from facing a backup goalie. Look for the Jackets to get a third straight win in this contest.
