Game 2 between the Philadelphia Flyers and Carolina Hurricanes is schedule to take place on Monday night in Raleigh. Carolina controlled Game 1 from the opening shift, skating to a 3-0 win while continuing a playoff run in which they have yet to trail in a game. The Flyers now face a quick turnaround and a difficult task on the road, needing to generate offense against one of the league’s best defensive teams. Here, I break down this matchup and make my Flyers vs Hurricanes Game 2 prediction.
Recent form
Carolina enters Game 2 in dominant form, off to a perfect playoff start that includes a first-round sweep and a convincing shutout win in the series opener. The Hurricanes have given up five goals over five playoff games and has suffocated opposing offenses. Philadelphia, on the other hand, advanced past the first round but showed inconsistency late in that series and struggled to create sustained pressure in Game 1 against the Canes.
Goaltending
Frederik Andersen has been elite in the playoffs for the Canes, posting two shutouts, including a 19-save performance in Game 1. He continues to track pucks cleanly and benefits from a defense that limits second chances. Dan Vladar has also been strong this postseason, but he got very limited support in the opener and will need to stand on his head in Game 2 to keep Philadelphia competitive.
Key skaters
Carolina’s depth continues to shine. Logan Stankoven has scored in five straight playoff games and added two goals in Game 1, while Jackson Blake contributed a goal and an assist. The Hurricanes also get steady production from Sebastian Aho and Andrei Svechnikov, giving them multiple scoring lines. For Philadelphia, players like Travis Konecny and Matvei Michkov must step forward after a quiet opener. The Flyers generated only 19 shots in Game 1, a number that must rise if they hope to break through.
Carolina’s defense, combined with elite goaltending, continues to yield results. The Hurricanes have allowed 1 goal per game on average in the playoffs, and their ability to wall off their opponents makes it difficult for opponents to establish an offensive rhythm. Philadelphia’s path to success likely involves increasing its shot volume and finding early scoring chances, but that is easier said than done against a team that has yet to play from behind this postseason. I recommend laying the puckline with the Hurricanes for the second straight game here, as they should take a 2-0 series lead.
