The matchup between the New York Islanders and the Utah Mammoth on Friday night is an interesting one. The Islanders arrive following a solid stretch on the road, while the Mammoth enter with a strong home record and a rest advantage. Before the puck is dropped in Salt Lake City, continue reading to get my Islanders vs Mammoth prediction for this contest.
Pick: Utah Mammoth -1.5
Confidence: ★★★★☆
The Islanders enter with a 9-6-2 record and are riding a three-game win streak of wins, all of which has come on the road. The Mammoth are 10-7-0, with a strong 5-1-0 home record. They score 3.29 goals per game and allow 3.06 goals against per game. Their home-ice advantage is important here, as is the fact that they are facing an Islanders team on the second night of a back-to-back.
The Mammoth are expected to start Karel Vejmelka (8-4-0, 2.84 GAA, .882 save %) this season. The Islanders may turn to David Rittich on the second night of a back-to-back. Rittich is 3-2 with a .886 save % in six starts. The edge in goaltending goes to Utah, given Vejmelka’s steadier numbers compared to the Islanders' backup.
For New York, Bo Horvat leads the offense with 12 goals and 10 assists. The Islanders rely on contributions from Mathew Barzal and others to generate offense, but fatigue could be a factor for them. Utah's Nick Schmaltz has 10 goals and 11 assists, while Clayton Keller has chipped in with 7 goals and 10 assists.
Player | Prop |
|---|---|
Bo Horvat | Over 0.5 goals |
Nick Schmaltz | Over 0.5 goals |
Clayton Keller | Over 0.5 assists |
Score Projection: Utah Mammoth 4 – New York Islanders 2
Win Probability: Utah Mammoth 66% | New York Islanders 34%
I am going with the Utah Mammoth to win and cover the puckline as a home favorite against the New York Islanders on Friday night. Utah has been sensational at home this season and that should continue against an Islanders team that played an overtime game in Vegas last night. Look for the Mammoth to win by two or more goals and for them to pull away late against a tired Islanders group.
