The New York Islanders and the Columbus Blue Jackets are set to square off on Saturday at Nationwide Arena in Columbus. Both teams have had solid seasons thus far in the National Hockey League’s Metropolitan Division, but come into this contest both seeking a win to help their playoff hopes. The Blue Jackets hold the edge in offensive output and are favored on the moneyline, while the Islanders bring a staunch defensive identity anchored by their goaltending. Find out who I like in this game below with my Islanders vs Blue Jackets prediction.
Pick: Columbus Blue Jackets ML ATS PRO
Confidence: 4 out of 5
The Blue Jackets have been more consistent of late, entering this matchup with a solid record and offensive contributors clicking at the right time. Columbus has won a handful of games in succession and put up multiple goals consistently, while New York has been competitive but less explosive offensively. The Islanders have shown resilience, using a strong defensive system to limit oppositional scoring opportunities, but their chances are limited by offensive output that sits below the league average.
In net, the Islanders are expected to start Ilya Sorokin, who brings a respectable goals‑against average around 2.45 and a save percentage north of .910, anchoring a defensive structure that frustrates opposing offenses. Columbus counters with Jet Greaves, who has posted a GAA comparable to that of Sorokin with a similar save percentage. This duel of netminders could be a pivotal factor should this game remain tight through the middle portion of the game, amplifying the importance of secondary scoring and special teams.
For New York, Mathew Barzal has paced the club in points with a strong assist count and continued pressure at five‑on‑five. Bo Horvat remains one of the more dangerous attacking threats, although concerns over his availability due to past injuries may limit his impact on this game. Columbus counters with dynamic contributors like Zach Werenski on the backend and forwards such as Kirill Marchenko and Adam Fantilli, who have shown an ability to tilt the ice in the Jackets’ favor. Werenski’s offensive production from the blue line bolsters an attack that averages north of three goals per game.
Score Projection: Columbus Blue Jackets 4 – New York Islanders 2 ATS PRO
Win Probability: Columbus Blue Jackets 57%, New York Islanders 43% ATS PRO
This matchup between the Islanders and Blue Jackets appears poised for a competitive contest, with the home side holding a slight advantage in offensive metrics and in the betting market. My projected score favors Columbus by a narrow margin and suggests a total that remains below the posted over/under mark. I'll go with Columbus to get a big win on their home rink tonight.
