The New Jersey Devils (13–4–1) hit the road to take on the Tampa Bay Lightning (9–7–2) on Tuesday night in Florida. New Jersey is trying to sustain its early-season surge and Tampa Bay is aiming to right the ship in front of its home crowd. Before the puck drops in Tampa, you can continue reading to get my Devils vs Lightning prediction on the ice.
The Devils are riding high, sitting at 13–4–1 with 27 points, which puts them at the top of the Eastern Conference. They have won two games in a row and four of their last five games. New Jersey has taken the first two games of their current road trip, beating the Capitals in a shootout and the Blackhawks in overtime.
Tampa Bay is struggling to find consistency early in the season. They’re 9–7–2 overall and just 4–5 at home, showing signs of vulnerability even when they’re expected to win on home ice. The Lightning have lost two of their last three games, dropping home games against the New York Rangers and Vancouver Canucks due to some suspect defense.
The Lightning will lean on Andrei Vasilevskiy, who has a 2.77 GAA and a .900 save percentage on the year. He will be opposed by Jacob Markstrom in all likelihood. Markstrom is 5-2-1 on the season and has a 3.68 GAA, with a ton of room for improvement.
Jesper Bratt remains a key playmaker for the Devils, while younger contributors like Simon Nemec have been making noise. Nemec recently capped an OT win with a hat trick and will try to give his team a lift again here. Tampa Bay will rely on Nikita Kucherov and Jake Guentzel to lead them offensively. Brayden Point can strike at any moment for the Lightning as well.
Player | Prop |
|---|---|
Nikita Kucherov | Over 0.5 Goals |
Jake Guentzel | Over 0.5 Points |
Jesper Bratt | Over 1.5 Points |
Score Projection: Lightning 2 – Devils 3
Win Probability: Devils 51%, Lightning 49%
This should be a tight game throughout, but I'm going to take the Devils as an underdog on the road. New Jersey has won four of its last five games and they should continue playing at a high level even with their injury concerns looming. Look for the Lightning to drop a third straight home game in what should be a highly entertaining matchup from Florida.
