The New Jersey Devils and the St. Louis Blues meet on Saturday in a critical encounter for two teams looking to flip their seasons around. The Devils arrive in Missouri struggling mightily, losers in their last five outings and searching for any spark to get back on track. The Blues, meanwhile, have also been inconsistent but have shown flashes of life at home and will look to capitalize on a struggling opponent in front of their own fans. With goal-scoring at a premium for both sides and momentum hard to come by, this Devils vs Blues clash should be an interesting one from Missouri.
Pick: Blues ML ATS PRO
Confidence: 3 out of 5
New Jersey limps into this contest with a troubling streak of defeats, dropping their last five games. The Devils have struggled to generate offense, putting up under two goals per game over the recent stretch, and are conceding more than three goals in many outings. Their offense has been inconsistent outside of several key contributors, leading to a slide that has seen them drop below .500 on the season.
St. Louis also has endured uneven stretches, although they have managed a couple of victories in their last five and show slightly better scoring output, albeit with defensive holes in their own right. Both teams rank in the lower tier of the league in recent form, making this contest a battle of wits as much as skill.
Goaltending remains a focal point for both clubs. The Devils are expected to start Jacob Markstrom, who has been reliable despite the team’s struggles, boasting a save percentage that keeps them competitive in tight games. St. Louis may turn to Jordan Binnington in net, offering a slightly higher save rate this season, although neither performance has been elite enough to mask team defensive lapses. Both goalies face challenges with shot volume and chances against in this game.
Nico Hischier has paced the Devils offensively with nearly 20 goals and over 40 points on the year, while Timo Meier continues to chip in when opportunities arise. New Jersey’s depth in scoring, however, has been scarce. For the Blues, Justin Faulk and Pavel Buchnevich have been central to their production, with Jordan Kyrou contributing as well when healthy. The absence of Robert Thomas due to personal matters could impact St. Louis’ secondary scoring, but the Blues’ top lines have been capable of generating offense when clicking.
Score Projection: Devils 3 – Blues 4 ATS PRO
Win Probability: Devils 46%, Blues 54% ATS PRO
This matchup between two struggling teams could easily go either way, but given recent form, home advantage, and slightly healthier offensive lineups, the Blues present value on the moneyline here. Both teams have issues generating consistent offense and defending at league-average levels, but St. Louis has shown it can score enough at home to stay competitive and potentially steal a victory in regulation or overtime. I'll go with St. Louis in this battle of struggling squads.
