The Minnesota Wild (5-6-3) will roll into Raleigh to face the Carolina Hurricanes (8-4-0) on Thursday night. Minnesota is on the road after an extended homestand and they will be tested against one of the best teams in the Eastern Conference. Which team will get a win in this Thursday night matchup on the ice? Continue reading to get my Wild vs Hurricanes prediction.
The Hurricanes are off to an 8-4 start and are 3-1 at home. They’re scoring at a rate of 3.58 goals per game and allowing just 2.67 goals per game. Their last game was a win over the New York Rangers on the road, a solid indicator of how locked in they’ve been defensively.
The Wild are 5-6-3 and enter this game on a modest two-game winning streak after a 3-2 overtime win over the Nashville Predators. They average just 2.79 goals per game and are allowing 3.64 goals on average. This is the first road game for the Wild since October 22 and it will be interesting to see how they handle being away from home after an extended homestand.
Carolina enters this game with Frederik Andersen expected in net. Andersen is 4-3 with a 2.96 GAA and .894 save percentage. Minnesota’s starter is likely Filip Gustavsson. He is 4-6-1 with a 3.11 GAA and .900 save percentage. The goaltending edge might be Carolina's by a slim margin, but both goaltenders have yet to play their best this season.
Kirill Kaprizov remains the driving offensive force for Minnesota with a team-high 18 points (8 goals, 10 assists). His production is essential if the Wild are to get a third straight win. Carolina's Sebastian Aho and Seth Jarvis each have 12 points to start the season. Their production anchors a balanced attack that has been hard for opponents to stop.
Player | Prop |
|---|---|
Kirill Kaprizov | Anytime Goal Scorer |
Seth Jarvis | Anytime Goal Scorer |
Sebastian Aho | Over 0.5 Assists |
Score Projection: Minnesota Wild 2 – Carolina Hurricanes 4
Win Probability: Minnesota Wild 30% / Carolina Hurricanes 70%
The Hurricanes should have the edge in this inter-conference matchup on the ice. The Canes have been strong at home to start the season and they have a slight goaltending advantage. I expect the Wild to struggle in their first road game in about two weeks and for the Canes to improve to 4-1 on home ice.
