The Florida Panthers are set to visit the New York Islanders on Sunday in an Eastern Conference showdown at UBS Arena on Long Island. The Islanders are in position to make the playoffs this year, while the two-time defending champion Panthers are trying to claw their way back into contention. Here, I break down this matchup in the Eastern Conference and make my Panthers vs Islanders prediction on the ice.
Pick: Florida Panthers Moneyline ATS PRO
Confidence: 4 out of 5
Florida’s recent form has dipped, marked most recently by a 3-2 loss that extended a rough stretch to 2-6-0 across their last 8 games. Scoring has still come from their top contributors, but consistency has been an issue. The Panthers are sitting around .536 in points percentage with a goals-for average just above 3 per game and a goals-against figure closer to 3.02 this season.
The Islanders are enjoying a strong campaign, sitting third in the Metropolitan Division with a 34-21-5 record and solid defensive metrics that include a sub-2.75 goals against average and a save percentage near the top tier of the league. New York has been effective at home, winning a majority of games at UBS Arena, and their goaltending has provided stability. They are also coming off an overtime victory in which they erased an early deficit, highlighting their ability to respond late in games.
Florida’s Sergei Bobrovsky has delivered quality outings this season but has been inconsistent during the recent skid. The Islanders’ goaltending has been steadier overall, with Ilya Sorokin keeping games within reach and giving their offense time to capitalize on limited chances.
Score Projection: Florida Panthers 4 – New York Islanders 3 ATS PRO
Win Probability: Panthers 54%, Islanders 46% ATS PRO
This contest should be a competitive game with playoff implications for both sides. While the Islanders have been dependable at home, Florida’s offensive depth and urgency to correct their recent slide give them a slight advantage. This is the second game of a back-to-back for the Islanders, which I think will help the Panthers to get a win on the road here.
