The 2026 Winter Olympics women’s ice hockey quarterfinal between Czechia and Sweden is set for Friday. It has captured attention after a preliminary round that saw Sweden dominate Group B and Czechia grind its way through Group A to secure a knockout berth. Sweden enters this elimination game unbeaten, while Czechia’s route has been marked by mixed outcomes against high-caliber opponents. Before this quarterfinal matchup begins on the ice in Italy, you will find my Czechia vs Sweden prediction in women's hockey below.
Pick: Sweden to win straight up ATS PRO
Confidence: ★★★★☆
Sweden enters this quarterfinal off a perfect Group B run, winning all four preliminary games and outscoring opponents collectively by a wide margin. The Swedish offense delivered 18 goals while conceding just 2, showing consistency against Germany, Italy, France, and Japan. This offensive efficiency places them among the more dangerous non-North American teams in the tournament, though their strength of schedule was not good at all.
Czechia’s campaign was more uneven within Group A, where they posted a 1-2-1 record. Their biggest highlight was a 2-0 victory over Finland, but the team also suffered losses to top teams, including the United States and a shootout defeat to Switzerland. Their goal differential in group play trailed that of Sweden by a substantial margin, underscoring the uphill challenge they face in the quarterfinals.
Sweden’s offensive success has been driven by contributions from several impactful players. Thea Johansson emerged as a standout, leading Sweden’s scoring with multiple goals in group stage games. Sara Hjalmarsson has also been integral, accumulating goals and assists while providing veteran leadership. Sweden’s balance across its forward lines gives them multiple scoring avenues heading into this elimination game.
Czechia’s offense is led by Natálie Mlýnková, who scored a sizable portion of her team’s goals during preliminary play, and Kristýna Kaltounková, who delivered offensive support. While their production has been noteworthy within the context of Czechia’s group results, Czechia’s scoring depth does not match Sweden’s multifaceted attack, particularly when facing a disciplined defensive opponent.
Score Projection: Czechia 1 – Sweden 4 ATS PRO
Win Probability: Czechia 25%, Sweden 75% ATS PRO
Sweden enters this quarterfinal as the team playing better hockey, while Czechia has faced an uphill battle so far in its Olympic journey. Sweden’s ability to control pace and create high-quality chances gives them the edge in both the moneyline and puckline markets as far as I'm concerned. While Sweden won't look quite as they did against a weak slate of group opponents, I'm going to take the Swedes to win as moneyline underdogs here.
