The Colorado Avalanche will open their season on the road against the Los Angeles Kings on Tuesday night. This game is a tough early test for both teams, pitting two teams against each other that made it to the postseason last year. Before these Western Conference opponents do battle in Los Angeles, continue reading to get my Avalanche vs Kings prediction below.
Colorado had a strong preseason, winning four of their six games before the start of the regular season. Los Angeles won five of their seven preseason games, though the majority of those games came against the lowly Anaheim Ducks. Both teams made the Stanley Cup Playoffs last season and will try to prove themselves starting with this season opening game tonight.
Colorado’s goaltending centers around Mackenzie Blackwood. In his first season with the Avalanche, Blackwood delivered solid results. He had 22 wins, a .913 save percentage, a 2.33 GAA, and three shutouts. Los Angeles is expected to start Darcy Kuemper. Kuemper finished second in the league in GAA last season at 2.02. He will try to set the tone for another strong season for his team tonight.
Colorado’s strength lies in its top-end talent. Cale Makar is fresh off a Norris Trophy win and is their engine on the blue line. Nathan MacKinnon and wingers like Martin Necas will be critical in driving offense as well. Kevin Fiala, Anze Kopitar, and Quinton Byfield will be counted on to generate offense. Kopitar announced that this will be his final season and it will be interesting to see how he performs early on with that in mind. Los Angeles will be without veteran forward Corey Perry, who is sidelined for 6–8 weeks following knee surgery.
Player | Prop |
|---|---|
Cale Makar | Over 0.5 Assists |
Nathan MacKinnon | Over 0.5 Assists |
Kevin Fiala | Over 0.5 Goals |
Last season, the Avalanche had a solid season on the road. They went 23-17-1 in their road games for the year. The Kings were even better at home, going 31-6-4 on their home ice. The Kings may not be able to win three-quarters of their home games again this season, but anything close to that would make them a postseason contender again this year.
Score Projection: Los Angeles 4 – Colorado 3
Win Probability: Los Angeles 55%, Colorado 45%
I think that the LA Kings are the best bet to place in this Western Conference matchup on Tuesday night. The Kings were great at home last season and getting them at a pick 'em price at home to open this season is a good bet, no matter what the outcome of this game is. I'll take Los Angeles on the moneyline here, in what should be a close game at Crypto.com Arena.
