The Chicago Blackhawks will take on the Calgary Flames in NHL action on Friday night. The Flames are off to the worst start in the NHL this season but are looking to build on a brief winning streak in this contest. They will try to do so against a promising young Blackhawks team that is in the midst of a long road trip. Before this matchup begins in Alberta, continue reading to get my Blackhawks vs Flames prediction for tonight.
Calgary comes into this game at 4‑9‑2 after a rough start. They have won two in a row over the Columbus Blue Jackets and Philadelphia Flyers. They allowed one goal in each of those two games and their defense will try to continue stepping up in this contest. Chicago is 6‑5‑3 and snapped a three-game losing streak by beating the Vancouver Canucks on Wednesday. This is the fifth straight road game for the Blackhawks.
Dustin Wolf is the likely starter for the Flames in this game. Calgary allows 3.2 goals per game and Wolf's 3.19 GAA is a big reason for those struggles in the defensive zone. The Blackhawks are allowing 2.79 goals per game and rank in the middle of the pack defensively. Spencer Knight is likely to start in goal for them. He has a 2.56 GAA and a .919 save percentage.
Nazem Kadri leads the way for Calgary with 11 points (4 goals, 7 assists). The Flames are 27th in goals per game at 2.33 per contest. Kadri will try to lead them to a more productive performance on the attack here. Chicago's Connor Bedard has recorded 18 points (7 goals, 11 assists) and is anchoring their attack. Bedard will need support from his teammates to generate more scoring chances for Chicago.
Player | Projection |
|---|---|
Connor Bedard (CHI) | Over 1.5 Points |
Nazem Kadri (CGY) | Over 0.5 Points |
Tyler Bertuzzi (CHI) | Over 0.5 Goals |
Score Projection: Chicago Blackhawks 4 – Calgary Flames 3
Win Probability: Chicago Blackhawks 55%, Calgary Flames 45%
The Flames deserve some credit for showing fight and picking up a couple of wins in a row going into this matchup. But I think that the winning streak of Calgary is going to come to an end tonight. The Blackhawks have a higher upside both offensively and defensively and there is some value taking them as an underdog even if they are on a grueling road trip.
