The race for the top spot in the Eastern Conference brings a high-tension game to Florida this weekend. The Carolina Hurricanes travel to face the Tampa Bay Lightning on March 14, 2026. Both teams are fighting for playoff positioning as the regular season enters its final stretch. Carolina currently leads the Metropolitan Division with 88 points, but they are coming off a disappointing 3-1 loss to St. Louis. Tampa Bay remains a dangerous force in the Atlantic Division, led by the scoring brilliance of Nikita Kucherov. This game serves as a potential preview of a deep playoff series, with both rosters featuring elite talent and veteran leadership. Expect a fast game where every mistake could change the playoff bracket.

Team | Spread | Moneyline | Total |
|---|---|---|---|
Carolina Hurricanes | +1.5 at -220 | +105 | Over 6.5 at -110 |
Tampa Bay Lightning | -1.5 at +180 | -125 | Under 6.5 at -110 |
The biggest narrative entering this contest is the health of the defensive units. Carolina is currently without Shayne Gostisbehere, who is dealing with a lower-body injury and is expected to stay out until at least March 17. His absence on the power play is noticeable, as it forces the team to rely more on Jaccob Slavin and K'Andre Miller to move the puck. On the positive side, the Hurricanes received good news regarding Nikolaj Ehlers. After a scary collision in a recent game against the Penguins, Ehlers has returned to the ice and is expected to play a major role in the top six. He has been a great find for the team this season, recording 50 points in 63 games.
For the Lightning, the story centers on the legendary form of Nikita Kucherov. The winger recently hit the 1,100 career point milestone and shows no signs of slowing down. He leads the team in scoring and continues to be the primary engine for their offense. However, Tampa Bay is facing some blue line difficulties. Erik Cernak left a recent game with an upper-body injury and his status for Saturday is uncertain. Additionally, Darren Raddysh has been away from the team for personal reasons, which leaves the defensive depth thin. Andrei Vasilevskiy will need to be at his best to cover for these gaps. He has been steady with 29 wins this season, but the high-volume shooting of the Hurricanes will test his stamina throughout the night.
Looking at the recent history between these two giants, the teams are tied at 1-1. Carolina won the most recent meeting on February 26 by a score of 5-4 in a back-and-forth thriller. This followed another high-scoring 6-4 victory for the Lightning back in December. This suggests that the Over is a very strong possibility whenever these teams meet. The total has gone Over in 4 of the last 5 games for Tampa Bay, as their offense has been clicking while their defense has been leaky. Carolina is 41-18-6 straight up this season, making them one of the most consistent teams for moneyline bettors. Tampa Bay has been excellent at home at the Benchmark International Arena, where they often dictate the pace of the game.
Player | Prop |
|---|---|
Nikita Kucherov | Over 1.5 Points at +110 |
Sebastian Aho | Over 2.5 Shots at -135 |
Andrei Vasilevskiy | Over 27.5 Saves at -115 |
Score Projection: Carolina Hurricanes 3 - Tampa Bay Lightning 4
Pick: Over 6.5 at -110
Confidence: 3 out of 5
Win Probability: Carolina Hurricanes 46%, Tampa Bay Lightning 54%
This game features two of the most disciplined systems in hockey, but the home-ice advantage for Tampa Bay cannot be ignored. With Nikita Kucherov playing at an MVP level and Andrei Vasilevskiy providing a wall in net, Tampa Bay has the edge in a close contest. Carolina is a volume-shooting team, but their struggle to finish against elite goaltending was evident in their recent loss to St. Louis.
Bettors should focus on the Over. While the Hurricanes are the higher seed in the standings, the Lightning have the motivation and the health in their forward group to secure a victory. The total is also tempting at 6.5, especially given that the last two games between these teams combined for 9 goals each. However, with the playoffs approaching, expect the defensive intensity to rise.
