The Carolina Hurricanes travel to Montreal for a compelling Eastern Conference clash on March 24, 2026, with both clubs sitting firmly in playoff position and playing strong hockey down the stretch. Carolina enters as one of the top teams in the league, driven by elite defensive structure and shot control, while Montreal continues to surprise with a dynamic offense led by young stars. With betting markets listing Carolina as a slight road favorite and the total set at 6.5 goals, this game presents an intriguing mix of styles that should appeal to bettors looking for value on both sides.
There are lots of games tonight in the NHL, including Colorado vs Pittsburgh, Minnesota vs Tampa Bay and Edmonton vs Utah.
Prediction: Over 6.5 goals
Recent form
Carolina enters this contest with a 45-19-6 record and has won 4 of its last 5 games (7-3-0 in last 10), including high-scoring wins against Pittsburgh and Edmonton. The Hurricanes continue to generate heavy shot volume, averaging over 32 shots per game, while allowing just over 24 shots against, one of the best differentials in the league. Montreal, sitting at 38-21-10, have lost 3 of its last 5 (5-4-1 in last 10). Both teams are high-scoring teams with 3.50 and 3.51 goals produced each game, which is 4th and 3rd in the NHL.
Goaltending
Carolina holds a clear edge in net from a team perspective, allowing just 2.90 goals per game compared to Montreal’s 3.23. While Pyotr Kochetkov has been sidelined, the Hurricanes system continues to protect their goalies effectively. Montreal is expected to rely on Jacob Fowler, who has posted a save percentage just above .900, but consistency has been an issue, especially against high-shot-volume teams like Carolina.
Key skaters
This game sets up as a contrast between Carolina’s structured defensive play and Montreal’s high-end offensive creativity. While the Hurricanes hold advantages in shot metrics and defensive efficiency, Montreal’s scoring depth and home ice keep this matchup close.
From a betting perspective, the total stands out more than the side. Both teams average around 3.5 goals per game, and Montreal’s defensive numbers suggest they may struggle to contain Carolina’s shot-heavy attack. Even if Carolina dictates possession, Montreal has enough finishing talent to contribute to the scoring. A 4-3 type of game is well within reach, making the over 6.5 the preferred play, with a slight lean to Carolina on the moneyline in what should be a tight contest.
