Game 4 between the Buffalo Sabres and Boston Bruins is scheduled for Sunday in this first-round series, with Buffalo carrying a 2-1 edge after a 3-1 win in Game 3. The Sabres have already proven they can win in Boston, and another road victory would push the Bruins to the brink of elimination. Boston knows its top players must deliver after a quiet showing in the last outing, and you can find out if I think they will deliver here, as I make my Sabres vs Bruins Game 4 prediction.
Recent form
The Buffalo Sabres enter Game 4 in good shape, winning two of the first three games and posting a 6-3-1 record over their last 10 contests. Boston has struggled to sustain offense beyond brief stretches, and failed to generate much of anything offensively at home in Game 3. The Sabres’ ability to win both at home and on the road in this series has shifted pressure onto the Bruins.
Goaltending
Jeremy Swayman has been solid for Boston with a .929 save percentage and 2.38 goals-against average in the series, often keeping games close. However, Buffalo found a spark in Game 3 with Alex Lyon stepping in and delivering 24 saves, including several key stops late. Ukko-Pekka Luukkonen remains an option, but Buffalo’s crease is less stable overall with a .889 save percentage in this series. Even so, Boston has not fully capitalized on that vulnerability.
Key skaters
Tage Thompson continues to drive Buffalo’s attack, recording 3 points and 13 shots in the series so far, while Alex Tuch’s Game 3 winner underlined his impact. On the Boston Bruins side, David Pastrnak leads with 5 points but has been quieter at even strength in the past two games. The Bruins also need more from their top line to tie this series back up.
The numbers suggest a tightly contested game, and that aligns with how this series has unfolded through three games. Buffalo holds a slight edge in overall scoring at 3.45 goals per game compared to Boston’s 3.27, but the Bruins are better in goal, which should make the difference on home ice here. I'll take Boston to win this game and even this series at two games apiece before the series heads back to Buffalo for a pivotal Game 5.
