This afternoon game in Ottawa features two clubs with very different perspectives on the current standings. While many experts expected the Anaheim Ducks to be in the lottery conversation during the preseason, they have shocked the league by sitting at the top of the Pacific Division as the 14th of March arrives. On the other side, the Ottawa Senators find themselves in a tough fight for an Atlantic Division playoff spot. This game at the Canadian Tire Centre represents a critical chance for the home team to gain ground on their rivals. For bettors, this meeting provides an interesting look at a western leader traveling east to face a hungry, high-scoring group that needs every point available.

Cutter Gauthier has blossomed into a premier scoring threat for Anaheim, netting 32 goals so far this season. His presence has transformed the offense for the Ducks, which now ranks 13th in the league for goals scored. However, the defense remains a concern for head coach Joel Quenneville. Anaheim has allowed 222 goals this year, placing them near the bottom of the league in that category. The health of John Carlson is a major factor today. The veteran defenseman is managing a lower body injury and remains questionable for this contest. If he cannot play, the pressure falls on young blueliners like Jackson LaCombe and Pavel Mintyukov to handle top-pairing duties against a deep Ottawa forward group. Ottawa is managing its own defensive hurdle. Jake Sanderson is currently sidelined with an upper body injury, which is a massive blow to their blue line. To compensate, the Senators will rely heavily on Thomas Chabot and Jordan Spence to play significant minutes. Offensively, the Senators are as dangerous as any team in the Eastern Conference. Tim Stützle is having a career year with 70 points, and the combination of Brady Tkachuk and Dylan Cozens gives them a physical, skilled presence on the top two lines.

Score Projection: Anaheim Ducks 3 - Ottawa Senators 4 Pick: Ottawa Senators Moneyline -135 Confidence: 3 out of 5 Win Probability: Anaheim Ducks 46%, Ottawa Senators 54% Ottawa holds the home-ice advantage and a more consistent power play unit. While Anaheim has been the surprise of the Pacific Division, their underlying defensive metrics suggest they are vulnerable to a team with the offensive depth of the Senators. However, the loss of Jake Sanderson is a tough blow the Ottawa defense. Look for Tim Stützle to lead the way as the Senators use their superior special teams to edge out a victory in a high-scoring affair. Bettors should focus on the moneyline here rather than the spread, as 14 of the last 20 games for Ottawa have been decided by a single goal. The Ducks have shown incredible grit throughout the season, but playing the second leg of a road trip against a rested Ottawa team is a difficult task. Expect a fast-paced game where both teams find the back of the net frequently, making the Over 6.5 a strong alternative play for those looking for more action.Affiliate DisclosureATS.io uses affiliate links.
