Sunday night’s showdown between the Detroit Lions and the Philadelphia Eagles will have a huge impact on the NFC playoff picture. Detroit is 6‑3 and heads to Philadelphia to face a 7‑2 Eagles squad in a game that carries implications not only for the divisions for both teams but for conference positioning. The Eagles are slight favorites at home going into this game. Before kickoff, I break this game down and you can find my Lions vs Eagles prediction below.
Both clubs enter this contest with their minds on playoff positioning. The Eagles lead the NFC East at 7‑2 and have become the favorites in the NFC once again. The Lions lead the NFC North going into Week 11. They are 6‑3 and remain major threats to the rest of the NFC. This game could very well be a preview of this year's NFC Championship game.
Detroit’s recent 44‑22 road win over the Washington Commanders last week confirmed the potency of the Detroit offense. Philadelphia has won three games in a row and they are coming off a defensive gem where they held the Green Bay Packers to just seven points at Lambeau Field on Monday Night Football.
Philadelphia has to overcome a short prep week here after playing on Monday night in Green Bay. But the Lions have to overcome the absence of tight end Sam LaPorta, who has been put on injured reserve. The Lions will be without one of Jared Goff's top targets.
Detroit quarterback Jared Goff has thrown for 2,235 yards, 20 touchdowns, and just 3 interceptions this season. He has a 74.0% completion rate and an impressive 117.7 passer rating. He enters this game near the top of the league in efficiency and will try to remain efficient without LaPorta to throw to.
Eagles quarterback Jalen Hurts has 1,860 passing yards, 16 touchdowns, and only 1 interception. His QBR sits at 63.3 and his quarterback rating is 112.0. While his yardage totals are modest compared to other elite QBs, his efficiency and ability to run the ball give Philadelphia an edge in most situations.
Score Projection: Detroit Lions 20 – Philadelphia Eagles 24
Win Probability: Detroit Lions 42% | Philadelphia Eagles 58%
I am backing the Philadelphia Eagles to win and cover the spread on Sunday Night Football this week. The Lions will have trouble adjusting to the absence of LaPorta in the passing game, while Philadelphia's offense continues to trend in the right direction this week. I'll lay the points with Philly in what should be their fourth win in a row in this game that we could see played again during the playoffs.
