Key Storylines
Utah comes into this contest having lost two of its last three games, as their offensive firepower has been offset by their defensive struggles. The Jazz score at a high clip, averaging 119.9 points per game, but they give up close to 127 points per outing, ranking at the bottom of the league defensively. Lauri Markkanen leads the team in scoring, but is listed as day-to-day with a groin issue that clouds his availability. Walker Kessler is out for the season with a shoulder issue and Kessler’s absence further weakens Utah’s rim protection, while Georges Niang and Kevin Love are also out.
Denver has been playing well aside from a recent loss ot the Houston Rockets that snapped a long winning streak. They are demonstrating the kind of offensive balance that can make them dangerous in the Western Conference. Nikola Jokić continues to deliver MVP-level numbers while Jamal Murray provides aggressive scoring and playmaking. However, Denver does have some injury concerns of its own, with Aaron Gordon and Christian Braun ruled out.
