The Utah Jazz (2‑3) will visit the Charlotte Hornets (2‑4) on Sunday at Spectrum Center in Charlotte. Both teams are trying to get themselves back on track after slow starts to the season. Charlotte enters as a slight favorite, but they are on the second game of a back-to-back. Before tip-off from Charlotte, continue reading to get my Jazz vs Hornets prediction.
Both Charlotte and Utah enter this game with losing records and questions surrounding their personnel. The Hornets are looking to end a three‑game losing streak and get a win at home after losing yesterday to the Minnesota Timberwolves. They have been among the league’s more aggressive teams offensively, but the Hornets have been dreadful on the defensive end of the floor.
The Jazz are slightly under .500 and have lost two straight games going into this matchup. The Jazz have an elite scorer in Lauri Markkanen to lead them, but they lack the pieces around Markkanen to be a serious contender in any way in the loaded Western Conference.
Utah will be without center Walker Kessler (shoulder bursitis) and guard Isaiah Collier (hamstring) for this contest. The Hornets have Grant Williams and Brandon Miller listed as questionable going into this matchup. Miller's absence would be especially impactful given how dangerous he is from beyond the three-point line.
Player | Prop |
|---|---|
Lauri Markkanen (Jazz) | Over 26.5 points |
LaMelo Ball (Hornets) | Over 8.5 assists |
Score Projection: Utah Jazz 121 – Charlotte Hornets 120
Win Probability: Utah Jazz 51%, Charlotte Hornets 50%
These teams are both wildly inconsistent and betting on them is asking for volatility. But I think the Jazz have a slight advantage in the betting markets leading up to this game. Utah has a rest advantage and should take advantage of the woeful defense of the Hornets in this contest. Expect a big game from Markkanen and for the Jazz to cover the spread as an underdog in a game they could very well win outright on the road.
