The second round of the NBA Playoffs opens Monday night with a clash between the Philadelphia 76ers and New York Knicks at Madison Square Garden. Philadelphia arrives riding the high of a stunning comeback series win over Boston, closing with three straight victories and a dominant Game 7 performance. New York handled its first-round opponent with authority and enters this matchup rested, confident, and favored at home. Here, I break down 76ers vs Knicks Game 1 and make my prediction in the betting markets.
Philadelphia’s dramatic turnaround against Boston has reshaped how this team is viewed. The return of Joel Embiid transformed the Philadelphia 76ers into a far more dangerous group, and their ability to win three straight elimination games speaks to how high their ceiling is as a team. However, this is a quick turnaround, and fatigue could be a factor, especially against a Knicks team that wrapped up its series earlier.
New York enters as the more consistent and balanced side. The Knicks have built their success on efficient offense, strong rebounding, and a deep rotation that can wear teams down. Playing at Madison Square Garden gives them an added edge, and their strong regular-season record at home reinforces their status as a legitimate contender in the East.

The key factor in Game 1 is situational. Philadelphia is playing its best basketball of the season, but doing so on short rest after an emotional Game 7 win will be a challenge. That type of tight turnaround often leads to slower starts, especially on the road in a high-energy environment like Madison Square Garden. New York’s depth, rebounding, and fresher legs should allow it to control the pace and gradually pull away. I recommend laying the points with the Knicks in this series opener.
