The Orlando Magic head on the road Thursday night to face the Charlotte Hornets in a late-season Eastern Conference clash that carries very different stakes for each side. Orlando continues to push for positioning in a crowded playoff picture, while Charlotte looks to help its cause in the play-in tournament. Here, I take a look at both teams and make my Magic vs Hornets prediction before tip-off from Spectrum Center.
Both of these teams are in position to play some form of postseason basketball this year. Orlando is currently in the top six in the Eastern Conference and gunning for a playoff spot, while Charlotte is in 10th place and still trying to get a more favorable position in the play-in tournament. It will be interesting to see which team wins out here and helps themselves in their postseason race in doing so.
It is also interesting to note that the road team has dominated the season series between these teams this year. All three games played by these teams this season have been won outright by the visitors. That trend bodes well for Orlando, but it is hardly a reliable predictor of things to come, and is instead just an interesting footnote going into this matchup.
Charlotte Hornets
Orlando Magic
Category | Magic | Hornets |
|---|---|---|
Points per game | 115.5 | 115.8 |
Points allowed per game | 114.2 | 112.2 |
Field Goal % | 46% | 46% |
Rebounds per game | 43.7 | 46.1 |
Assists per game | 26.4 | 26.5 |
While Charlotte has controlled the season series, Orlando enters this matchup as the more balanced team. The Hornets ability to score, particularly at home, should help them to win this game outright. But I recommend taking the points with the Magic in what should be a tight game from Spectrum Center on Thursday night.
