Game 3 between the New York Knicks and Atlanta Hawks shifts the series to Atlanta with everything reset after a split in New York. The Hawks stole Game 2 with a late comeback, pulling out a 107-106 win after trailing late in the fourth quarter. That result flipped the tone of this series, turning what could have been a commanding Knicks lead into a best-of-five battle. With both teams showing the ability to control stretches of play, Knicks vs Hawks Game 3 will decide who has the upper hand in this series as we approach the business end.
The series sits at 1-1, though the Knicks arguably controlled more total minutes across the first two games. Their Game 2 loss exposed late-game execution issues, including turnovers and defensive breakdowns in the paint. Atlanta capitalized by attacking inside and getting efficient scoring late.
Another storyline centers on rebounding. New York has held a clear edge on the glass, which has helped them generate second-chance opportunities. If that continues, it could offset Atlanta’s efficient offense. Meanwhile, the Hawks return home where their pace and shot-making tend to improve, especially from beyond the arc.
The big question going into Game 3 is how the Knicks will respond to their loss at Madison Square Garden last time out. New York scored six points in the final 5:30 of that game. If their confidence is shaken by that performance, Atlanta could be in position to take advantage.
Atlanta Hawks
New York Knicks
New York remains the more balanced team despite the Game 2 setback. The rebounding edge and better defensive metrics give them a slightly higher floor in close contests. Atlanta’s offense is dangerous, especially at home, though they rely heavily on shot-making that can vary from game to game.
My projections make this a tight game, with a hint of value on the visitors. I'll take the Knicks as a slight underdot to retake the lead and home-court advantage in this series.
