The Detroit Pistons return home Thursday night for a high-stakes meeting with the Minnesota Timberwolves, with playoff seeding on the line in both conferences as the regular season winds down. Detroit has been one of the league’s best teams all year, while Minnesota is still jockeying for playoff positioning in the West. Before tip-off from Detroit, continue reading to find out what I like in the betting markets, as I make my Timberwolves vs Pistons prediction.
Detroit enters this game with one of the best records in the league and has been especially strong at home. The Pistons already handled Minnesota convincingly in their last meeting, winning 109-87, and that result highlights one of their biggest advantages: interior presence and rebounding. Even without Cade Cunningham in the lineup, Detroit continues to find ways to generate offense and control the pace of their games.
Minnesota, meanwhile, responded to that loss with a dominant win over Dallas, showing improved shooting and ball movement. The Timberwolves rely heavily on Anthony Edwards for scoring bursts, and when their perimeter shots fall, they can compete with anyone. The concern remains consistency, particularly on the road and against physical teams like Detroit. And Edwards being questionable for the game adds another question mark into the equation.
Detroit Pistons
Minnesota Timberwolves
Stat | Timberwolves | Pistons |
|---|---|---|
Points per game | 117.9 | 117.5 |
Points allowed per game | 114.1 | 109.6 |
Team Field Goal % | 48% | 48% |
Rebounds per game | 44.7 | 45.6 |
Assists per game | 26.2 | 27.4 |
Detroit’s ability to control the paint and rebound at a high level stands out in this matchup. Even without Cunningham, the Pistons have shown they can generate efficient offense while limiting opponents with strong defensive metrics. Their recent win over Minnesota was an encouraging sign, and I do expect the Pistons to win this game, even with Minnesota keeping it close with Edwards back on the floor.
