The road-weary Los Angeles Lakers get a timely opportunity to get back on track in Washington, taking on a young Wizards group that has won two games in a row. This is the first meeting of the season between these teams, and the Lakers will try to take advantage of the tired legs of the Wizards to get a victory. Before tip-off from Washington, I've got you covered with my Lakers vs Wizards prediction for Friday's game.
Our Lakers vs Wizards Pick

Confidence: 3/5
Game Snapshot
- Matchup: Los Angeles Lakers @ Washington Wizards
- Date & Time: January 30, 7:00 PM ET
- Venue: Capital One Arena, Washington, DC
- Broadcast: NBA League Pass
Key Storylines
- Star power: Luka Doncic paces the Lakers at 33.6 PPG and 8.7 APG, with Deandre Ayton leading the glass at 8.5 RPG. For Washington, Alex Sarr leads the way at 17.6 PPG and 7.7 RPG, while Kyshawn George tops the assists chart at 5.1 APG. But the Wizards' young core could struggle in this game, as the team is on the second leg of a back-to-back.
- Availability watch: Lakers list Austin Reaves and Luka Doncic as questionable for this contest, with Reaves possibly making his return after missing significant time with a calf injury. Adou Thiero is out with a knee injury for the Lakers. Washington lists Khris Middleton, Tristan Vukcevic, Tre Johnson, and Marvin Bagley III as questionable, and Cam Whitmore out for the season. Trae Young is sidelined with a knee injury.
- The Lakers have won three of their last five games, all of which have come on the road. They were most recently beaten by 30 points by the Cleveland Cavaliers, in what could have been LeBron James' final game in Cleveland.
- The Wizards have won two straight games, defeating the Portland Trail Blazers and Milwaukee Bucks at home. Still, it will be hard for the Wizards to win for a second night in a row.
Head-to-Head & Betting Trends
- Past meetings: The sides haven’t met in 2025-26. Last season, the Lakers swept the two-game set, winning 111-88 in Los Angeles and 134-96 in Washington. They have taken 6 straight overall against the Wizards.
- The Lakers are 25-21 against the spread so far this season.
- Washington is 20-26 against the spread this season.
- The over is 26-20 in Lakers games this year.
- The under is 24-22 in games involving the Wizards.

Final Thoughts
I am going to lay the points with the Lakers on Friday night in Washington. Winning on the road in today's NBA is never easy, but the Lakers should have the upper hand against a Wizards team that is playing for the second straight night and has several players listed as questionable due to injuries. As long as Doncic plays, the Lakers should roll, even more so if Reaves is able to make his comeback.
