The Los Angeles Lakers head to Denver on Tuesday for a pivotal Western Conference matchup with the Denver Nuggets. As two playoff-caliber clubs, both teams are looking for a win that would help their potential seeding in the Western Conference as the year goes along. Here, I break down this important matchup out west and give you my Lakers vs Nuggets prediction on the court.
Pick: | Nuggets ML ATS PRO |
Confidence: | 3/5 |
The Nuggets have been trending upward, winning four of their last five games, all despite the absence of MVP candidate Nikola Jokic. Denver’s offense has been efficient and they have overcome the loss of their top star with contributions from players like Jamal Murray and Peyton Watson. The big question in this game for Denver will be on defense, where they are tasked with slowing down the incomprable Luka Doncic.
The Lakers bounced back from a slump with a strong defensive showing in a recent win over Toronto, thanks to an improved effort that they need to sustain here. Despite the victory, Los Angeles still ranks among the league’s poorer defenses and will need stops against Denver’s excellent half-court execution. Star contributions from Dončić and LeBron James will be essential to combat the relative depth of the Nuggets, especially with Austin Reaves out of action for LA.
Score Projection: Lakers 114 – Nuggets 120 ATS PRO
Win Probability: Lakers 42%, Nuggets 58% ATS PRO
The Nuggets are slight underdogs in this game without Nikola Jokic to rely on. But I'm going to take the Nuggets as moneyline underdogs at home here, as they have proven that they can hang with the best of the best even without the player who is leading them in just about every major statistical category this season.
